Swingarm Length

I've ordered a new axle, and am now looking at adding a swingarm. I know a lot go -2 for mx and and needed traction, some go +2 for a lot of power.

 

Basically, I want to improve my handling and tame the front end (for all the super power juice I'm going to give it), but I don't really want to sacrifice turning or handling on the mx track or woods.

 

My friend keeps telling me I need to go +2 and that will work for about everything I like to do. +2 sounds goot to me, but I'd like to hear from some experience.

Go -2 You won't regret it. :D +2 will probably help ya a bit with keeping the front end down, but not a whole lot. With my -2 I don't have wheelie any more really than I did before, but I hook up 10 times better. I also went to +2+1 arms & all around suspension, my handling is night/day better than it was in stock trim.

I figured I'd hear from your "-2" self. :lol: Just kidding, I appreciate the experienced opinion. Being shorter has to help the turning and hook up tremendously, hmmm, things to ponder. Thanks again.

Blue Duece has a +4mm stroker and a 12 point port job w/ a -2 swingarm..... If anything would make it flip over THAT would. I run a -2 swingarm and you couldn't pay me to go back to the stocker.

 

BTW: I'm less that 70 miles from you(I live by sherman) and the cut swingarm is PERFECT for this riding terrain... especially when it gets dusty.

I'll stray from the norm and say go for the +2. I've never ridden a -length swingarm before so I'm biased. I've got a +4 and ride mostly sand, but still hit the hills / trails / singletrack with no issues. The increased length makes the bike more stable, for me it's worth the trade off in turning radius (after all I'm not parallel parking the bitch) and remember, changing the length of the swing arm changes your rear suspensions motionratio, thus changing the effective spring rate of the factory spring (longer arm = lighter wheel rate, shorter arm = stiffer wheel rate). What axle brand / width did you end up getting?

Rainbow sticker special, 2+2. The price was right. ;)

 

I don't know what to do on the swingarm. I'll probably wait a little longer. My friend has the +2 and I'd like to ride his before I buy, granted he's hitting 100 horses, so the apples to apples is out the window. :lol: I might try to find a -2 to ride in the meantime also.

If you want shoot me a pm and I'll give my cell#(or more info) and I can tell you all you need to know about the -2. I would say come out and ride mine but it don't have ANY suspension under it right now. Unless you wanna run some 20" razrs then I'd be willing to swap the hole ass end out for a while.

Good choice, it will work out fine, I've had zero problems with mine, which model?

The eliminator for $290 to my door. ;)

 

My friend has the x33 and the adjustment pins get wollared out. Is "wollared" a word? :lol: He loves the axle, just not the way it's adjusted. I didn't feel like messing with the adjustments that much. +2 and +4 is fine with me.

I say get the +0 its a lot cheaper :lol: But seriously, do you feel compelled to hack the swingarm or something? I say take the money you'd spend on the swingarm and get a nicer rear shock and spring if you haven't already and it will be more of a noticeable improvement than + or - 2 inches.

I've got the X-33, set at max width, no problems with the adjustment holes, I just make sure the hub to axle attachment bolt is tight (nylok nut with loc-tite).

I tell ya what,...when we get to the dunes on the 19th, we'll go out & ride, find a place to chill for a few & I'll let you ride my shee with the -2 arm on the sand & you can make up your own opinion of it. B)

Seriously, that's a great gesture and when that day comes, we'll give it a go, that is if you can let yourself.

I am going to get a +4 long rod stroker engin done by Jim, and I was thinking I would have to go up to a +2 to keep the front end down with all that power..

 

So with the -2 the front end stays down about the same, just hooks up a whole lot better?
