Sorry!

    Sorry folks that PM'ed me since last Tuesday.  I have been away on a skiing exam.  So, if I didn't reply and you were wondering why, that's the reason.  You should have a reply by now.  Oh yea, I passed!!!!  Level 2 Alpine skiing certified!!!  click HERE  Peace.... B)

Sweet, where do you Instruct?? I grew up in Steamboat, CO and always wanted to work on the mountain, instruction, or patrol. Thought that would be kick ass.

When we were younger, we would take our quads (had a lt250r and bud had atc250r) in town and harass the local police, and when they were all after us, we'd go straight up the mountain and down another side to our house. We only got caught once, but it lead to minor in possesion, contributing to the delinquincy, and a few other good ones. <_<

Congrats to your success.

Scott

Thanks guys on the congrats!!!! :) Actually, the exam I just took was only the skiing portion. The easy part IMHO. The second part, is another 2 days of professional knowledge and teaching that is examined. That is the tougher one. I have to read up on the Alpine manual, and brush up on the "professional" terms and all that nonsense. And Sredish, I each at Kissing Bridge. It is a small area, south of Buffalo. It is rediculously small. Kissing Bridge\ I don't even know the vertical, but I estimate it to be about 300' maybe?? :( I should probably know that.... Anyways, Deuce, it does mean a raise once it's al said and done, but it surely isn't worth it. In the end I will have over a grand into just passing this thing, not including my time off from work, or time spent training and studying. Just mainly for my own personal challenge. And to bring the customers something more than just the average instructor. :) Skiing has been a love of mine for a bit now, well, actually only 10 years. It's fun, and passes the time in the winter..... I have neever been out west to ski, but I hope to make it some day. One thing i can say is that I went into the skiing portion of the exam wayyyyyyy overprepared. :) It showed, and I hope I can go into the next level the same way. After that, it is years of out of pocket expense and time to become an examiner. I have heard in excess of 40G's not including time off from normal work. Every examiner I have spoken with owns some sort of home construction or landscaping business. seasonal work seems to be the forte' of them...... Maybe someday I can make it there......:unsure:

I was going to ask you what you do in the off-season? If you want to teachg full time in the winter and have an off season business, go for it, and it sounds like you already have. You'll be at that Level III in no time. With those certifications, I would imagine you could get a job anywhere teaching.

Kissing Bridge looks pretty damn nice to me. Maybe me and the wife will make a trip out and you could show us around the mountain. I've never skied in the east. What do the passes cost? Sweeet, look at all the blacks and doubles, I may have a hard time getting the wife up there. I may have to leave her in the hotel.

Skiing is by far my very favorite sport. If I could ski every day, I would. I'd come close to giving up my treasured banshee for a life in the powder. My favorite place in the world is up in the mountains, looking down on the world. My favorite skiing is the bumps, I guess I like the technical aspect, it's nice to hit some slalom too. Granted, I don't live in a snow state anymore, but I dream of the day of moving back. My business is getting bigger and bigger here, and it's foolish to get out now when it's going so good and move to where my business isn't established. I'll wait until I have some nice savings to move. It shows how you take for granted what you have, but it takes not having it to realize.

Steamboats vert is 3,700 ft, and there are around 3,000 acres of skiing if I remember right, with the longest run being 3 miles. :o

Later.

Precisely SRedish!! I would love to have an off season business. Unfortunately, I do in the on season, the same as i do in the off season. I work full time. I only teach part time in the winter. Only on weekends. But, it interferes with bartending as well. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. My work week is usually about 85 hours. Not including drive time. But, I love it!!!!! I am trying to get the town to let me put up my new shop in the back, in which I hope to expand current business affairs into it, which may provide what i need to work as I have time, and focus more on skiing in the winter. The place I just took my exam at, Gore Mountain has some pretty sick terrain. There is a hill called "The Rumor" which is touted as being the steepest run in the east. I estimate it to be about 70 degree slope, and filled with 5 foot tall moguls. You basically fall into the face of a mogul, ski off the side of it, make a 180 degree turn in mid air, and slam into the face of the next one. It is by far one of the hardest runs I have ever pounded. Check this pic out if Imagestation works.....

That is the entrance to the run. it is about 300 yards down. The entrance is gated off to about 5 foot across. Just beyond the "caution snowmaking" sign is the ledge. It is awesome. And on the hills at Kissing Bridge, all them blacks ad double blacks aren't what you're thinking. They are compareable to the easiest slopes at other resorts. But, the marking is resort specific. They can't labele every run with the green circle.... although they probably should. Rebel, I ski Every Sunday at KB. I work, I have to. But, once the season's over, (work season that is) We'll have to hook up and go to the valley. It would be sweet!!! I like Holiday Valley alot more, but, it is about another 1/2 hour, and I can't do it for as much as i ski and work.... I just cracked the Alpine manual last night that I have to read and memorize. It is about an inch thick. This is going to be tedious!! And Deuce, my nuts get in the way often....... :oB) Or so I like to think.... And on the makin' bank part, how's $6.50 an hour sound for teaching a lesson? :( And that's only for any hour you actually teach. I could be there for 8 hours, not teach one lesson, and I won't make a penny. Think it's worth it? To me it is.:)

I completely forgot you were going for that this week. Congratulations man. The feeling of self accomplishment is always a good thing.

Let me know if you get a hold of your buddy and what he says.

Take it easy, and good luck with the rest.
