QuadMX
I just got a pair of 28mm Mikuni Flatsides in the mail today. Hooray...However...I go to put them on, they should mount right to the stock intake correct? I have K&N clamp ons and those go on with a little bit of help. The carbs will not mount to the intake manifold though. They fit, but the diameter is about 1/8-3/16" smaller than the stock ones. What am I sposed to do? Thanks in advance. MotulMonsta
The stock carb is 26mm so the 28 should be bigger. Are you saying the carb does NOT fit inside the stock intake boot? Like the boot is too big? I'd return those Mikuni's and get Kehnin 28mm pwk's. Those will fit. Perhaps they sent you the wrong carbs. Do'nt try to just clamp down on it, it should be a snug fit so it won't pop out while you ride.
QuadMX
Well ya...Where the carb goes to the intake is smaller, but where the air filter goes its bigger. I really don't understand it myself. Where it goes into the intake boot, the stock carb is 1 3/8" diameter to the outside edge, the 28mm is 1 1/4" diameter to the outside edge. I thought they were sposed to fit the same. Need more help! Bob
MotulMonsta
So it fits in the boot tight but doesn't go all the way in? if it fits tight in the intake boot, it's good. the Carb is going to be longer then stock, so it won't sit in there the same way. but if you put the carb in and can wiggle it up and down and there is a gap..aka the carb does not fit tight, then that is no good. Perhaps they make an intake boot for it, perhaps they sent you the wrong carbs. It should fit tight. if it's not tight you have the wrong carbs. geaux 4 it
You will have to a wider band clamp, like from a car.You will have to cut the little tab off of the intake boot where the carbs fit in them.

Exactly. Just get some good hose clamps. I had the same trouble. They will be fine. They make them smaller on that end a bigger on the intake for atomization and air velocity. You'll be fine. QuadMX
Hey thanks a lot guys. I'll just shave off that little tab on the clamp...You're sayin it should be good after that so I'll do it. Thanks again. Bob
