kcroyalsfan69 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I just got a set of t5's and am getting ready to jet. I'm from kc, mostly trail ride, get in the dust and mud alot, head to the dunes once every couple years. Right now I have a k&n filter in the airbox with the lid and no vents, should i cut some vents, run w/out a lid, or leave it as is? Thanks. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 run with out it, unless you do some heavy muddin where the mud would pour in there Quote
BansheeBrian Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 What do you have for an air filter setup? If your using an outerwear you can cut the back of the air box lid for better air flow.Doing so you will be able to use your clamps and still provide some protection for those muddy conditions. Ducman Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 In the summer when the creek I live next to is shallow enough to cross it I put the lid on so the water cant just flow right into the air box. I've had the water up to the bottom of the seat before for an short amount of time without killing it or sucking water. In the winter I take it off and I haven't had any problems with pieces of mud getting in but I don't usually get in the mud nearly as deep as the water in the creek crossings. I have some lid mods that I might try for next summer that should flow almost as good as the lid off and still keep out as much water as the stock lid. I'd say vent the lid or leave it off unless your going to get it in mud up to about the level of the carbuator bowls. Quote
THOR1 Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I have a kn with outer wears and leave the lid off. Just rejetted mine. I would like to modify my airbox lid to were when I go trail riding I can throw it on and not worry about big clumps of mud. Have any of yall used that outerwears lid cover they have out? Thinking about getting it. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Cut the last 1.5" off the end of the lid so you stilll have all four clips...Works just as well as no lid and keeps the mud from getting on top of the filter.. Quote
Lepew Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 you'll get more performance without or modifying the lid but you'll have less aircleaner maintenence if you leave the lid alone. I like having a full lid to put on when I wash my bike. Quote
kcroyalsfan69 Posted February 28, 2004 Author Report Posted February 28, 2004 If I'll be running with the lid some and without it some, which setup should i use to jet it, and i dont have outerwears now, but could get some if necessary. Thanks Quote
Banchetta Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Jet it for the lid off, you'll be a little rich w/ it on, but at least you won't be lean w/o it... Quote

Thinking about getting it. i have one of those outerwear lid covers that i never used, ended up ditching the entire box itself. a few riding buddies have them and like them alot, only complaint is the velcrow that holds it on tends to come off due to the heat from the exhaust. BansheeBrian Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 I heard that pantyhose works well over the airbox as well in sandy conditions.I dont think you can get it at RMATV.Maybe from your local stealership! Quote

Yeah, all the guys at my local stealership wear it. that's whats wrong with 'em!! Quote
lincster Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 If you are running in water up to your seat, you better make sure all of your electrical connections are sealed with silicon. Especially the CDI box, those babies are expensive. Make sure the lines running into your flywheel cover are sealed also. Once you get water in there, it will rust your flywheel and stator. Quote

I run a pantyhose over my 2 into 1 air filter as well as an outerware. When I clean my filter, there is hardly any sand on it. Quote
