DUNEDEMON
Was just curious to see if anyone was running Hipers or any other type of beadlock (single or dual) with their sand tires.......Not you "hill shooter only" guys, looking to hear from the seroius "duner" types. Thanks.
Lepew
Theres little traction to pull a bead off. It would be a waste of money.
DUNEDEMON
I've never found traction to cause a tire to come off the bead, low air pressure, extreme side loading are what cause a tire to come off the bead. And when running paddles in the sand you get maximum tration, I can't think of where you get better traction. Wasn't looking for opinions, was looking for any one running them and their reasons. banshee370
dunedemon: I would also guess a weight savings.. I had the chance once to weigh all the diff wheels and there is no weight savings w/ the hypers over regular alum bead locks. There is a huge weight savings w/ a conventional wheel over a beadlock
DUNEDEMON
banshee370, thanks for the intelligent reply. I am well aware of the weight differences between conventionals and beadlocks, for some people this is an issue, and good to know. Strange that the weight comparisons you did came out that way. I weighed my hiper 10x10 dual beadlock and compared the weights of my old douglas wheels with champion bead locks (10x10 also) and the hipers were 2.5 LBS a piece lighter. banshee370
dunedemon: When I had measured the hypers was at least a year or so ago. They may have changed their designs since then. If I remember correctly there was less than a 1/4lb difference between the Hypers, Douglas, Champion's. I would think its more of the amount of drag on the motor from the paddles and the extra added weight than anything... Then maybe its looks more than anything... Beadlocks are for MX'ers! hehehe
Lepew
I would have added look cool like a moto-x-er to my opinion but someone might take offense. As far as traction goes I meant side load. I don't see anyone pulling beads off at the dunes.
