I have gates i have to go through when i want to get into the field. I have to go through them every day because i have to go back with out Magnum and dump horse shit every day. I usually just unlatch it then hit it with the fourwheeler to open it lol. I know that a remote opener would be the shit!!! too bad i dont ahve any money for something like that.

Hi Wassup350:

Do you know what a cattle guard or "Wyoming Gate" is? They are perfect for effortlessly passing vehicles but not horses and cows (unless they are really smart, brave or crazy). The Department of Transportation uses them on interstate on/off ramps out west to keep animals on the open range out of populated areas.

Regards,

Bill

What you need is an electric actuator and a remote solenoid setup. You would have to run power to the are where the gate is, and put up a small electric panel to house the control unit. It isn't all that expensive, and it is definitely something you should be able to do yourself. How wide is this gate, and how far do you want to open it? You need to figure out your mounting points for the cylinder, and then measure the stroke that you will need. Then you can shop for the correct unit...

After twenty years of opening and shuting my gate I bought a Mightymule gate opener. Look at it at www.mightymule.com. I think it was $425 for the base unit and then I had to get the solar panel to use. No 110 power at gate. Use a remote that can be set to your code. If your electrical you could prolly reproduce it cheeper.

Originally I was going to use a garage door opener. Setting up the gate to swing up and its weight would help close it. Or on a slide or wheels that pulled strait in and out. Hope this helps ya some!

Well after the kids are gone, getting in and out to open that gate gets real old.
