Vito's Pistons

I just rebuilt my top end with Vito's power pistons. As I look in the intake and roll the engine over by hand I noticed that the windows in the pistons only get about 2/3rds exposed. Is this right?? I had it running and it seems ok but I haven't ridden it yet. Something dosen't seem right here. Help!

I'll look at my engine and get you a definite answer soon, but in the meantime.... I think your fine.

But lets think this one out...

If you had a longrod crankshaft and your powerpistons were made for a standard rod crank, they pistons would smash into your head. That didnt happen, cause you said you had it running.

If you have a standard rod length crankshaft, and Vito's sold you longrod style powerpistons, your piston crowns would be 5mm lower than the top of your cylinder at TDC. Take your head off and verify the pistons come all the way to the top of your cylinders. PowerPistons do have a raised crown so that could throw a curve in the problem :( , but I doubt the powerpiston crown is raised 5mm.

BTW, +5mm is the length of a longrod crankshaft.

They were supposed to be .020" over standard power pistons. They sent me .040" so that was wrong. I just had it bored to those pistons and installed them anyway. Now that I have it together I noticed that. That's not right is it.

where did you order them? why dont you call them up and ask?

Boring to those .040" over pistons was a mistake. Wasting a bore for nothing. Dammm. That may bite you in the long run..... Anyways, it sounds as though you're fine, but if you ordered .020" and they sent you .040" they may be the complete wrong piston? Meat nailed exactly what I was saying, and detailed it perfect. So, do your pistons sit .197" below the top of the cylinder or what? That would be fairly close to 3/16" and I wouldn't think that with that much squish that the motor would even start.....

I called the tech line and it is the right ones. It was standard bore before and I can go to .100 over so I still have some life in the cylinders. It just struck me odd that the port is still somewhat covered when the piston is at BDC. The piston does go to the top of the cyl. like it should and it runs good so far. I did order .020" and they sent me .040. I didn't wanna screw around sending them back and all that so I just went .040". No biggie.
