troyminator
Well Guys, Got the cases split! Thanks for all of the great suggestions (Actually used the nut on the stud trick and it worked most excellent!) Now that everything is out of the motor, well almost everything... The bearing clip on the right side of the lower case is stuck in its groove. This is the bearing the "grenaded" in my motor. Does anybody have any suggestions as to get it out??? It appears as though the clip has "welded" to the case...probably because all of the friction in the area when the bearing did go out. I tried tapping it with a screwdriver and hammer, but no luck. I tried to pull it with needle-nose pliers, but no luck... I don't know what to do. Another thing I noticed is that the bearing failure has lead to what I would consider pitting in the bore on the lower case where the bearing sits. It is pretty well "roughed" up. Is this something that I would want to send out for fixing or is there some trick for this? FYI: I am going to be sending out my cylinders for some port work, so this may be a time to ask Jim if he could fix up this area too?? As always thanks for your answers! boonman
I don't know how bad the case is without looking at it. The case would be impossible to weld to the clip. Steel, to aluminum doesn't form a very strong bond. it has to come out somehow. Perhaps heat will be needed. You should be able to clean it up enough to slap a crank in there..... Blacksmith
Use a set of side cutters or dykes. Clamp tight on the edge of the clip and lever the pliers side-ways. This will lever out the clip.
frocashmoney24
yea i like blacksmiths idea, but boonman is right, aluminum to steel will not weld itself, for your cases if theres nothing that will fly off i would just take sandpaper and smooth it out as good as i couuld, make sure the crank cleared it and put it back in
lincster
Man Troy, you are in pretty deep it sounds like. You should be ready for next season at least right? We are going down 3 weekends in a row starting Feb 27th. Nothing like the dunes to break in your new motor huh? Just kidding Good luck. .
you also might want to think about sending your cases to jim anyway, at least the top case so he can port match the transfers to the cylinders.
