I'm planning on making a trip out to the kermit dunes this spring break. I haven't ever been there before and I was wondering if anyone had any info about the dunes and if anyone is planing on going. I'm from houston and I figure that they are the closest dunes. Anyone have any general info that they would like to share about kermit? thanks

Well Hell I'm going to Glamis that week so I wont be there.

There Are no fees, Flags and helmets are not required because there are no cops or park officials at the dunes. But I would recommend you always wear a helmet when riding at the dunes or any where for that matter. it only takes one drop off or razor back to really mess up your whole week.

8' Flags would also be a wise investment because on the trails there are quit a few blind corners.

If you dont run paddle tires be prepared to spend alot of money on fuel because you'll burn twice as much.

The week of spring break usually isn't that busy so if your bringing an rv you shouldn't have a problem having a place to park.

If you get lost on the east side of the road just keep going and you will eventually come out on the perimitter trail them just go left or right and you will make it back to camp.

Have Fun And Be safe

I ride at Kermit once in a while, when you know the dates let me know and I might make it for a weekend day or two.

Axle is right on, no rangers, no regulations; I would also advise a helmet and whip (I'm not aware of anyone in Kermit that sells flags, better get one ahead of time). Spring break shouldn't be that busy, there's generally more people there on weekends than weekdays so if you're planning a trip you would get the best parking spot in the early or middle part of the week. Even cheap paddles would be worth using, the sand is pretty fine so you're much better off with them, but if you can't get them knobs won't be too bad.

The dune area is roughly 5 miles by 7 miles, and bordered on two sides by a highway. As axle said there's a trail that runs the perimeter, so if you ever get lost in the middle of the dunes you can just pick a direction and eventually you'll either hit a highway or the perimeter trail and get back to camp.

The parking area has 4 or 5 covered picnic tables, and a small asphalt lot about 150 yards square. There are no facilities at all; no water or porta-pottys.

I think Kermit has some great dunes for the area, and will be worth the drive. The bowls aren't huge but there is literally miles of rolling sand hills, if you ride around you can find some perfect jumps and some decent hills. There's plenty of good trails and a couple places to drag race. One of the best things is being able to cut out across the dunes and not have to worry about running into anyone, you'll see people here and there if you need help but for the most part there's lotsa room to ride away from everyone else.

I met Dune-a-tic there once (he's also from the Houston area), I think he said LA Dunes were closer but Kermit had a much larger area to ride...

If you go to little sahara, you'll be passing right near me before you cross into OK. I wouldn't making a trip up there with ya. I've never made up there and can't find anyone around me to go. I do know that they have facilities.

Here's a link to the Little Sahara website.

On the other hand, I don't know where Kermit is exactly, but that sounds good, although maybe a little too far for me.

Quite the contrary, personally I think there's few things in life better than a babe on a Banshee...just don't be surprised if some of the dogs (including me) around here beg for pics...

No, no. She's mine, all mine. Just kidding.

Nice to see ya here. I think you'll fit right in. If you like, own, or want a banshee, this is the place to be. BTW, I posted in your rims post a minute ago.
