neocrysis Posted February 14, 2004 Report Share Posted February 14, 2004 Hey guys~ My Banshee is a 92 with less than 10 hours on it. My dad bought it and never rode the thing. Finally, he's getting a Rhino and giving the sweet machine to me. In the short amount of time he did ride it, he noticed a hose would puke coolant all over the front exhaust pipes. We located the hose, on the right side, that ran back to the coolant tank in back. We figured it might have been a bad head gasket, so we replaced that. We also tried a new radiator cap just to be safe. Nothing. We found out this is a common problem with Shee's. So, we just need to know how to fix it? Any help?! Thanks!!! sredish Posted February 14, 2004 Report Share Posted February 14, 2004 The problem seems to be that your overheating, and when it overheats, it boils over and out the overflow tube and onto your pipes. Figure out why its overheating and you'll solve your problem. I wouldn't go ride it too much until you figure out if and how its overheating. The first place I'd look for in an overheating banshee is the water pump impeller, these are notorius for breaking. The banshee likes to run warm under normal circumstances anyway. Get some Engine Ice coolant to use, that will help, get an impeller from Pro Design, its much stronger and flows a lot better. Also check your plugs for running lean, which is a very very bad thing. If its running lean, then your engine will get hot and overheat. You will need to adjust your jetting to fix that. These are a few places to start. Lepew Posted February 14, 2004 Report Share Posted February 14, 2004 INSTALL A TEMPERTURE GAUGE !!!! Yep I fought this to for awhile. Install a temperture gauge !!!! I changed head gasket, jets, radiator cap, water pump and cleaned up the water pump passages and added a coolant additive(Water Wetter) but it didn't help. Do check to make sure that it isn't somewhere else but it is either to hot or you have to much water in the overflow. If you overheat it you can usually tell by the gurgaling sound the motor and radiator make and the steam coming out the tube draining on the pipes. If you have water in your overflow it seems to find a way out the vent tube, mostly when bouncing around on the trails. I just don't keep any water in it. My wifes bike we just got rid of it all together and ran the hose from the radiator cap down to just above the pipe. Both our bikes we run temperture gauges from ESR. Now I know exactly how hot the motor is and barely have coolant pissing on my pipes. When I ride the dunes I run hard til I reach 230 F and park in the wind for a minute to let it cool.
