STLbanshee Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 so the side with the choke smokes alot more then the side with out the choke, at idle, but then as you give it gas it evens out alittle. Quote
Wallrat Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Mine does that sometimes too only it happens on the opposite side. No idea why it happens but it hasn't given me any trouble. Of course mine is only a slight difference in smoke and only while I'm warming it up. Quote
evil Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 so the side with the choke smokes alot more then the side with out the choke, at idle, but then as you give it gas it evens out alittle. dose it seem like it is hitting on both cylinders at idle or only when you rev it up ? have you done a compression check on both cyl's and how are your reeds ? it could be something simple like the jettings off or get more serious, at idle you also mentioned in another post it dies when you gas it. try to get it jetted correctly and go from there. also mentioned, you messed with the air screws, are they both the same adjustment ? mine ran like crap at idle and on the gas and it turned out to be the reed was shot. BenBB Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Does the left side fire at all or not? If the left is firing & smoking, and the right side is NOT firing or smoking, it could be a clogged pilot jet (from your other thread I think you need larger pilots as others said). If both are firing and only the left side is smoking, it could be anything evil mentioned, or possibly a float height issue, oil separating out of the premix, or carb sync. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Carbs are most likely out of sync......I've seen really old plugs do it also. Quote
Big Blue Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 My left side was smoking really bad when i put my bike back together, when i had the carbs off messing with the jetting i put the carb that was on the left side on the right side and now both side smoke the same. Quote

Sounds like the jetting or a pilot might be clogged...Clean the carbs w/ an air compressor thoroughly and make sure the air screws are the same... Quote
Big Blue Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 they are brand new carbs the only thing i could think of is that the float was sticking because after i had them apart it doesnt do it anymore. also while doing my jetting when i pull the plugs to get them at WOT they almost look lean they are a little lighter than cardboard but when i ride it acts like it is rich? i have 190's in it right now. Go up on the mains and adjust the air screws for throtte response...most likely the low end is whats rich or lean, not the mains... Quote

Go up on the mains? there are only 2 more sizes, I messed with it today and the pilot is a little rich, Im just curious why with such a large main the plugs would look border line lean. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 190's are small....even for stock pipes...I used to run 210's for stock pipe and stock filter...240 w/ K&N. Now I'm running 300's w/ a midrange pipe and K&N w/ air box mods..... Quote
Big Blue Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 i forgot to tell that i am running 30mm keihins. now what i am talking about might make more sense. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Now don't I feel sheeeepish!!!! Damn 190 mains for keihin carbs.....that is BIG..You checked the plugs right after running it wide open throttle in 6th gear?? And they are still that light?? Quote

And they are still that light?? yep they are still that light, slightly lighter than cardboard, how far should i run WOT? it feels rich but looks lean to me. Do you have any good pics of a properly jetted plug that way i have more to work with. I sold my t6's so i wont be messing with my jetting for about a week until i get some new pipes. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 You should get a accurate color after running for 5-10 seconds at wot....I've had old black plugs burn in on the dyno in one run and stayed that color after continuous runs. I'd go up a couple more sizes....What makes you think its running rich?? Hesitation?? Spittin or sputtering?? Do you have to keep revving it to clean it out?? does it idle good? Start good when cold? warm? Quote
