dunin
I have some Elka shocks on my bike and I ordered their shockwears to use. But when I go riding they bunch up and they get in between the smaller spring. What if I just take them off, would that be a bad idea? Anybody run with their shocks uncovered. I just want to know if they'll be aright. I ride 100% sand.
Aussie Quad Racer
they are there to protect them from objects hitting the shaft and chipping the chrome. If you dont follow other riders where you can get hit with a roost then you dont need em, but i would suggest to use them. I have used regulare motorbike fork boots with success
421stroker
I've never had a shock shaft get the chrome chipped off. I would imagine the biggest reason to use them would be to keep the dirt and water off of the seals so that they last longer.
erbilabuc
they help all around, keep the dirt out of shock, keeps your shocks clean and newer looking. its dumb to spend big bucks on shocks and not protect them. its kinda like buying a Ferrari and putting rubbing diesel in the gas tank cus its cheaper. SANDSTAR
If you are riding in sand, you better not use them unless you take them off and wash them after every ride. Sand and dust will work their way into the fabric/neoprene and will be like sand paper to your springs. As far as chipping the shaft chrome, if a rock comes flying hard enough to chip chrome, or paint for that matter, it will not be stopped by the shockwear. Most folks put them on and forget about cleaning them or inspecting their shock seals after every ride. If you are worried about roost, I have a simple solution, ride in front!
