CoolRaptor2001 Posted February 11, 2004 Report Share Posted February 11, 2004 I was just watching CNN and when they had the usuall stock market part of it they brought up all the ATV death statistics(what it has to do with stock market I dunno). They showed a video of people riding around on 3wheelers, and kept saying how they could reach speeds of 70mph and how so many kids are getting killed on them. They also kept mentioning how last year more people were killed on ATVs then jetskis or snowmobiles. Of course Ozzy Osbourne was brought up, basicaly they were blaming the ATV he was riding for it and made no mention of his 42 pain pills he was on. My personal favorite though, they said how kids are like 50 percent more likely to die from a ATV crash then a bicycle crash (NAW YA THINK!?). They failed to mention how much ATV sales have went up in the past years...maybe that has something to do with more people getting hurt on them hmm? You have a rate of say 1 death for 50000 atvs. You sell 209875200 atv's some people are going to die, but its not anymore that the statistical average. Now double the sales. tithead Posted February 11, 2004 Report Share Posted February 11, 2004 i agree......altho all of us on the hq have come off 1 or 2 times and nailed ourself we are all still here. did the say how are the average age of the kids were. i bet some random dad put his 6year old kid on a blaster and thot hed be fine until he clothes lined himself on the washing line string that mum forgot to put away. over here people on the news say its bad but the also say its good that people are getting into it cos its keeping croime rates down. when will they make there mind up! This is typical of most media sources. Nine months ago I broke my back in four places on my 'Shee. A few people wanted me to sue Yamaha. This really pissed me off and I let each of them know it! A mechanical defect didn't cause my accident! Like most ATV Deaths I caused my accident by being stupid. I was just lucky enough to get a second chance. ANyways, on a serious note, there isa a funny thing about all the recent questioning of ATV injuries and deaths... You see, in the last five years, the statistics actually show a DECREASE in the ratio of injuries and/or death from ATV's. You see, the number of machines sold, exponentially increased, while the number of injuries suffered did not increase the same amount. So there are more machines out there, and not as many peeps getting hurt. They always fail to mention that. I've been at home sick all day yesterday, and so far today, and I tried to watch CNN. I watched for a total of 5 minutes before I was ready to throw the TV through my front room window. They were trying to "spin" the Janet Jackson tittie incident into some big deal. The guy they were interviewing said "I don't think there was a single child that was offended by it" the news beyotch said "YOU DON"T THINK THAT A CHILD SEEING A BREAST ON TV ISNT DAMAGING?" He said about the same thing I said when I saw it "It was a wide angle shot that lasted less than 2 seconds, if that. I wasn't even sure what it was I saw it was so small and quick" then she fired back with "DON"T YOU HAVE ANY CHILDREN OF YOUR OWN??" and he would come back with a normal common sense answer. It went back and forth then they just ended it. Completely moronic news channel. People bash FOX, but I'll still watch them when I can over any other "news" network. If thats all i have to do for a million or so dollars than dam i'm going to Mc Donalds and accidently spill hot coffee in my lap and sue Mc Donalds for my mistake. Of course the coffee is gonna be burning hot who drinks cold coffee??? Yes, the sueing these days is crazy over dum stuff as for the janet deal i saw it and you couldn't really see it in a second shot and if you could she had most of it covered by that giant star ring thing. Sueing over dum stuff is just a way for lazy people to get money instead of working for it like the rest of us. Oh by the way Does anybody know what ATV ozzy was riding??
