BansheeJerry
I dont want anything too expensive or big. Right now I am seriously considering a ninja 250r. Cheap ($3000 brand new) runs 14s in the 1/4 0-60 in 5-6 seconds(fast enough for me) , cheap insurance.. Anybody have any experience with the 250 ninja? Is this a wise choice for a bike? Going to the toy store tomorow to check them out.
Indubitably
I honestly think a 250 would be too small and would go for at least a 600, but then again it would be for going really fast, not your day to day transportation. BansheeJerry
I would kill myself on a 600.. I just want something that will carry me back and forth to work cheaply and still have a little get up and go. the 250 ninja tops out at something like 105 mph.(so I read) I havent ridden street bikes in years so I dont want anything that will get me into too much trouble.. brock_fuzzy_69
yeah most guys will get tired of a 250 right away a good 500 bike is also a GS 500 zuke or a 500 ninja just remember anythign with an R in the name means high insurance rates usually meaning a ninja 600R or GSXR 600 yamaha R6
NYUK
do not and i repeat do not get the ninja 250or the 500 they are both mopeds.they are girls bikes. start out on a 600. if you can handle a banshee you can handle a 600 streetbike. take my word you will be highly dissapointed in the small ninjas. mcaf29
Nyuk nailed it. I got my first street bike last year and its a 2003 R6. If you ride a banshee there is no way a 600 will be too much. I remember when I bought my bike it was silly fast at first but then I just got used to it. I mean its still fast you just get acustomed to it. Just like the shee. Put pipes on and wow this thing is insane. Then you get used to it so you port it, then you stroke or big bore or both. You just learn how to ride the power. Personally I don't believe any bike is too much bike. If I were to buy an R1 does that mean I have to do 160 everywhere I go? I rode my buddies 2003 Gsxr1000 last year w/ no problem because I rode it within my capabilities. I can rip wheelies on my R6 easily but I know trying to rip a wheelie on the 1000 the same way would flip me over backwards. I know its a long answer for an easy question but I just think a 500 is for someone with no motorcycle skills at all. You obviously have the most important skills already which is 1 down five up, you already know how to shift, you use mostly front brake when stopping (when you get more experience you can learn how to brake hard into corners so you don't low side or worse high side). The rest is watcing out for the other morons on the street.
Otis
I think it's great that your considering the 250. Most modern day 600's are "race ready" and have way too much hp for an inexperienced rider (not saying your inexperienced). Ive seen too many people go down cause they had that "a 600 is too slow for me" mentality. The EX is a good bike. Are your friends gonna say "holy [censored] dude, sweet bike!"....probably not. Are you gonna impress the chicks w/ it...not likely(well maybe... ) Are you gonna be leading the pack on the track or while carvin the canyons...uh no. but for what you said you wanted to use it for, it's a good bike. If your intrested, here's a link to a great street bike site. Lots of good info on bikes and stuff. http://www.sportbikes.com/wwwthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=
evil
nice post otis, bj, if all you want is a comutter bike, then the 500 will do, its a little more then the 250 but the added little bit helps, and makes for more fun. something like that would be perfect, or mabey the seca, but there ugly i just rode a new 500ninja that the neighbors friend bought to get him to school, it had enough go for getting around but not fast enough for me !!!!! but like you said, its just a way to get from point a to b. and 250s are light enough to do fat ass nose wheelies and bunny hop up a curbs. my neighbors love me ha haaa !!!!!! Wallrat
I agree about staying away from the 250 or 500. If your gonna get a street bike, then a time will come that you'll want to take off quick or take it to the twisties. That little 250 is gonna feel like a mini bike with a briggs and stratton on board. A 600 WILL NOT kill you. Hell a liter bike wouldn't kill you. The thing that will kill is riding beyond your own limits, whether that be on a 250 or any other size bike. Go with a 600.
Big Blue
IMO the 250 is a pieace of shit ive know a couple of people that have had them, the 500 is a alright bike but you will get tired of it even as a commuter bike, you would be happy with any 600 and there are always alot of them for sale. If i were buying one i would go all out and get one of the larger bikes right off the bat, just take it easy and respect the machine and dot get a case of the stupids and youll be fine. BansheeJerry
Thanks for all the replys.. I love power just as much as the next guy dont get me wrong.. I am just thinking that I can get a brand new 250 for $3,000. I can probably get a beat up 600 for near the same price but in all honesty.. All I want is cheap transportation back and forth to work. I havent rode a street bike in over 10 years.. I never owned a sport bike.. My street bikes are as follows... 1983 Honda 250 Custom (sweet bike with belt drive.. no power but it did its job) 1981 Yamaha XV-920 Euro model. (loved that bike...Absolutely loved the torque and sound. sold it with many regrets..they are hard to find in the condition that I had) 1981 Honda CB750 Custom.(another nice bike that I loved very fast.. but.. didnt handle all that well) I am 33 years old with 4 kids.. We are getting rready to buy a new house about 30 miles from work. All I want is a cheap way to get there and back. I do however think it is cruel to have an engine turning close to 10 grand at highway speeds (ninja 250) but it is a small motor. I did go to the toy store today and sat on a 250 ninja.. Felt small to say the least. I dont know... I appreciate all the input but I am still at the cross roads... I can get a brand new machine for 3k. I wont be doing anything for a few months anyway.. Thats why I asked about this bike. I still have time and alot of thinking to do. Thanks all... Keep the advice coming...
rebelbanshee2
i think yammi just came out with the FZ6. its like a cruise around version of the R6. looks pretty neat. that and the zuki SV650 look like pretty good daily riders w/ so,me balls
BansheeJerry
I saw something made by Yamaha that was very wierd looking... The fender was almost glued to the back tire.. Is this the bike you are talking about? I guess I am old school but this thing looked funky.... I have never seen anything liek that before in my life....To each their own I guess... I still like the 86 VFR Interceptor... The V65 Magna is a classic as far as I am concerned..Tells you how long I have been out of the bike scene...
