FoxBansheeRacing Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 My pilot and main jet are right on, but I think my needle may be a little rich. The best way to desribe it is when you hit the powerband hard when its not warm yet and it has some hesitation. This happens at about 1/2 throttle so I'm sure its the needle. I also tried running with the choke on and it was worse. Are they symptoms of being rich and how do you adjust the needle? Quote
reas11 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 in my opinion u shouldn't hit the powerband hard before u warm up .. u should let the bike get to operating temps. before u start whooping on it .needle adjustment is very simple pull the carb tops off take out the slides , then the needles. after u have the needles out , take the clip off the needle noting the position .. move the clip up to lean it out down to make it fat. use needlenose pliers and be careful the clip pops off fast sometimes u dont wanna lose it . Justintoxicated Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 yea, don't lose the Jesus clip in the sand. They call it that because when you are out at glamis on a trip and the clip flies off into the sand you go.... "awww Jesus!" Quote
FoxBansheeRacing Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 I think I need to rephrase what I said earlier. I am not running it like that when it is cold. I am saying that that is what its LIKE when I hit the powerband, even though it is warm. It is not quite as bad as when its cold, but there does seem to be a little bit of hesitation. Quote
Ducman Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 What position is the needle clip at now? Quote
FoxBansheeRacing Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 I'm not sure. Its at whatever the guy I bought it from had it at. I couldn't figure out how to adjust it so I dont know. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 A lean needle will make it hesitate before powerband and a rich needle won't even kick into powerband, it'll just spit and sputter....I'd just try moving the clip one way and try it...It'll either be noticeable better or noticeably worse, if it gets better then try another clip the same way. If it gets worse then go the other way and try that...Find the sweet spot...some pipes makes HUGE differences in performance on the needle position...You have to pull the slides out and hold the spring back on the slides, you'll see a little gold clip inside the top of the slide, shake the slide up-side-down and the clip will fall out, disconnect the cable and the slide will come off...look into the top of the slide and you'll see 2 screws, take them out and shave the slide, the needle will fall out.....lower the needle by raising the clip towards the blunt end....richen the needle by lowering the clip towards the tapered end...let us know how you make out Quote
