bansheeMD Posted January 29, 2004 Report Share Posted January 29, 2004 Hey all, I could really use some help over here. all of you have been extremely helpful in the past and I have tried to return the favor as much as I can but I have to call on your help once more. I am wondering what the advantages of reed spacers are. Actually I am looking for any general info on reed spacers. Heres what I got: 96' shee FMF pipes and silencers 25 pilots and 300 mains K&N with outerwears and the lid off boysen power reeds (stock cages) and a lot of other bolt on crap (bars, nerfs etc.) Please let me know if reed spacers would make a difference thanks in advance bansheemd Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Meat Posted January 30, 2004 Report Share Posted January 30, 2004 Here's how it was explained to me. The reed spacers will add volume to the crankcase. Additional crankcase volume reduces the air\fuel mixtures velocity\pressure. Lower crankcase pressure will smooth out the powerband. No hp gains or losses, but they just make the power come on smoother and with less of a "hit". Might be benifical for mx or xc racing. sredish Posted January 30, 2004 Report Share Posted January 30, 2004 I think Meats got it more or less in my opinion. You'll generally feel a sensation of more low/mid power. I don't know if it would show up on a dyno as more power, just maybe a smoother curve. I set my machine up to pull more mid power out and I believe the VForce reeds helped that. As a stock motor, I wouldn't say spacers would do all that much. I believe that with bigger carbs, it will help you pull more volume. Make sense, think I confused myself. My buddy put some on his banshee when he installed his PC pipe kit, his shee runs sweet--the powerband comes on nice & smooth, no jerky, kick-your-ass powerband hit. With the wrong jetting though they may not work quite as well, I don't know if you have to rejet when you put them on or not. sredish Posted January 30, 2004 Report Share Posted January 30, 2004 I was told the spacer is worth a couple points on the main jet due to the extra amount of air coming through at high rpm. I jetted with that in mind and came out pretty good. The VForce have the spacer built in, I don't know if that makes a difference. I was surprised at the smoothness they provided. reas11 Posted February 1, 2004 Report Share Posted February 1, 2004 the best thing a reed spacer accomplishes, is if u have bigger carbs the spacers keep the left carb from hitting the clutch release lever .can be a easy fix to a pain in the ass problem..
