Banshee Problems

KX250

Recommended Posts

I have a KX250 Dirt Bike and have had a Blaster in the past. I love Dirt Bikes and four wheelers. The only reason I dont have a four wheeler is because i love two strokes and love the look of the banshee. Now with all that in mind i talked to some people and imediatley they talked me out of it. They claim if you dont run them wide open or if you do it will foul plugs. IS this true. Is there any major tuneing needed out of the box. I do trail riding.

So did you ever foul plugs, even riding slow. When I ride on the trail I hold a constant pace of about 10 to 15 on tight trials. Does it ever foul plugs. Because the motorcross dirt bikes do if you dont run them hard.

It all depends on the setup. Motocross bikes are setup to run hard and hot under acceleration and cool when they are off the throttle somewhat so it helps keep the bike from burning up. Under that setup, if you back off the throttle, as you would on the trail, then the bike will be running too rich for that type of riding. My lt250r was setup that way, I really had to watch idling and slowpoking around.

If you set it up for trail riding or less agressive riding, you won't have the top end so lean and you won't have the bottom end so rich, it will be a happy medium. If your letting a shop do the work, just tell them how you like to ride and that you will be riding trails and your concerned about the fouling plugs issue. They can easily set it up so you'll never have a problem.

I've had my banshee for awhile now, and I have never ever ever fouled a plug. That sounds strange even to me but I haven't. Right now, in the winter, it smokes a little on startup (due to the Castor 927) when its cold, but it doesn't foul plugs. There is absolutely no reason it should foul plugs. If you set it up with performance accessories that help the midrange, as I have, and you will have a great trail performer.

Good luck with your purchase.

personal story-never had a banshee, let alone a two stroke except for a chainsaw and a weedwacker.12-01-03 seen a banshee at the local bike shop for sale, remembering all the negetive things ive heard from friends and family, but i had to see it,kinda of a guilty pleasure kind of deal.eyed it up for a while, the store owners son came out and gave me an education on banshees.i thought ok just salesmen B.S. so we talked for a bit,he asked me if i wanted to hear it run-kinda dum question.well one kick fired up.and WOW i was in love.the mechanic came out to see what was up.we talked for a bit more, and i left my number with them if.whent home did a little more research, found the HQ read a bit.12-14-03 bought my first banshee, needed to work some bugs out of the carbs, and im hooked. bottom line if you have a little knowledge of basic mehcanics you shouldnt have a problem with one.if you like to giggle at the sounds of screws being turned unnecicarily a banshee is not for you.banshees have a stigma of being a pain in the ass to keep running but it isnt true at all. sorry for the long post, just venting a bit hope it helps

people are so fucking stupid. banshees only foul plugs when they are not tuned right. there is a reason soo many people have them, and i can assure you its not because they foul plugs. if you have any doubts about a banshee then you should just buy one and see how badass they can be. then go to your friends and show them how badass it is. then they will all be buying them.

There are over 12,000 regesterd users on this site. I'll bet just about all of them have one banshee and I've read that more than a few have TWO. Now, If they all fouled plugs I really dont think that this site would be in existance today.

I agree with what alot of people say If it aint tuned or jetted properly you gonna have problems and Im sure its gonna be more than a fouled plug. ;)

Before I bought mine I heard the same thing," Man you cant ride that on the trails, thats a wide open machine, its way too fast for the woods" To hell with them!! they are just jealous cause you are gonna get a DAMN good quad!!!!!!!!!!!!

when you are slowing down on your shee all you need really do is kinda feather your clutch as you ride, to keep the r's up just like you do on that 250, your just kinda riding with a finger on the clutch lever working it like it was a fine woman, riding a shee fast is all touch, have you looked into the 400EX?..... i hear its one hell of a nice machine......
