erbilabuc
went drag racing tonight and while I was there My banshee got stuck in second gear. Pulling in the clutch lever feels fine but when I go to shift into a gear it will not do anything while the motor is running. If I turn the bike off and shift with either foot or my hand then it will shift? its 3am and I just did not want to tear it apart right now so I figured I would post this and see what I can wake up to . thanks
Banshee0028
Damm bro, doesn't sound too good, but it could possibly be something with the oil you are using..What type are you running in the crankcase? Other than that maybe someone can recommend something directly with the clutch ...is this the first time this has happened? What type and how old is the clutch? spoin39
Check to make sure that the shift change lever(inside case) didn't loose contact with the shift star. This usually results in getting stuck in 1 or 2 gears though, but worth a check.
erbilabuc
i think it might just be low on oil, going to make sure right now. thanks for the advice
frocashmoney24
hell yea check that shift change lever, i have the same thing you were talkin about, when i took it apart it had popped off somehow
fixitrod
If you've just put the clutch in then you may have not lined the arrows up on the pressure plate and inner hub. I did that once and It just didn't go... lol. If you haven't had the clutch apart lately, start where the others have said... the lever hitting the shift star. geaux 4 it
Sometimes the shift shaft won't grab the shift star because it will wear on the inside where it grabs the pins or the return spring is getting weak.

I think the shift star thing is the reason I bought a Clymers. And if that turns out to be the problem then fix it and washer up the shaft on the shifter (left) side, hell, do that anyway. How many washers and what size?

spoin39
The easiest way to fix it right is to replace the shifter, it comes with the rod and chager linkage and only cost me about $28. I get a discount but shouldn't be much more. I hate to admit it but I replace it as soon as this happens to me every couple of years. erbilabuc
thats 28$ at the dealership or were?
erbilabuc
ok so i got in there and everything seemed in tact. I adjusted the clutch by way of the rod in the middle of the basket. Helped a little but it still is a little harder to shift even though now it will actually go into gear unlike before. I have been told to change the shift shaft and everything that is connected to it? Any objections?
