spoin39
As you can read I have some mods but I keep getting 2nd or 3rd (3rd more than anything!) at local hillclimb competition. What do you guy's think should be my next move? Keep in mind I still want to play ride and I race some MX and a few GNCC's every year, so longer swingarms and radical setups not going to work. I was thinking longrod and have spoke to Jim about it but want your opinions, I trust alot of you on here!
Leadfoot350
maybe smaller domes or advance the timming. Long rod does not do anything just puts less wear and tear but you wont notice anything. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Stroker? locogato11283
at our local hillclimb when i had the 350 engine in my banshee i was running in the stock class (no extension over 2 inches, no engine mods). i had toomey t-5s and a cool head. thats about it. i ran 12/41 gearing. its low but thats what i always run in the trails. in all except one hillclimb i took 1st. i was even beating most of the guys in modified class. its gonna depend on what you are up against and how fast you really wanna go. i would recommend a set of pipes, v force reeds, and an aftermarket air filter. if thats what you have now then you may look into some port work. fixitrod
If it's ported, it may be over ported for a stroker. I'm not sure. Depends what all they did. I agree, the longrod will just give you reliablility. If the crank is in good shape now, that would be a waste. Have you advance your timing? 4-5 deg would be good. Sounds like you have a lot done already. More compression and race fuel may be your answer. That's about all I can think of without going nut. Jetting, that's a biggie. Make sure your jetting is dead on or just a touch rich. There is a lot of power to be had in jetting.
Banchetta
What kind of hill climbing?? Steep hill climps w/ bumps and jumps and vertical, or like dune hill climbing??
spoin39
Sorry guys, I meant stroker. The guys that beat me most always have the following. 250R w/CR500 engine, and a 370 banshee. Both have a +2 swingarm but I am so close I don't want to do that. The hill has a jump about 10' from the line and another about 12' after that, If you roll the first and get a good drive at the second there is a indention in the hill to land a "double", then about another 150' to the top. They run 4.7-5.1 consistently, I run 5-5.2 all the time. I am the most consistent but that don't pay squat! We are all friends but I want to be right there with them! Any help is appreciated! fixitrod
A stroker will get you off the line faster for sure. Sounds like it's kind of tight too. Might do you some good. A cheaper solution might be to get some pipes with more torque to them. Pt mids are a great pipe. I'd say pt pipe are a possibility, but defenitly compression and race mix or straight race fuel. I'd start there for the $$ it's gonna cost for a stroker.
spoin39
My compression is at 158 and run race fuel for the event, I think I'm going to send it to Jim for a stroker, Got room for another Jim????
