jasonsb
I bought a new Barnett clutch from a shop but it did not come with any instructions. (that's why I got it cheap). The kevlar plates are so thick that they will not fit if I put the rubber ring spacers back on from the stock clutch. The new kevlar plates also have a red mark on one of the top of each plate grove. Does this mean anything? Should I not include the spacers since the new Kevlar plates are so thick and wide? ALSO, The stock metal plates are supposed to be rotated evenly when installed...the new plates aren't tapered, they all look the same. fixitrod
Okay, do not use the rubber orings. the order of the steels does not matter and the red on the clutch plates is so you can rotate the plates in the basket one tooth off. So if you put the first clutch plate in with the red at the top... 12 oclock, then the next clutchs red mark should go in the next groove and so on. Thats it. jasonsb
Hey thanks a lot! I still have the side cover off. I need to go back and rotate the plates according to the red dots. I didn't know you had to rotate the kevlar plates...I know you had to rotate the stock metal plates though. ANOTHER QUESTON: Is it normal for the clutch lever to feel super stiff? I've tried to adjust the clutch to the best of my ability but it still feels stiff. I kept a small bit of play on the lever just like the manual says to do. jasonsb
I forgot to mention that the new Barnett springs were a hell of a lot longer than the ones I took off. I thought my clutch was burned, but it was probably the weak springs.
SICK BOY
Fixitrod I didn't know you had to offset the red marks. When I put mine in I lined the red marks up.Will this hurt anything,it seems to work fine?
FadedDreams
Same here ,the red marks on mine are all spread out.Really didn't notice until i had it together, but i've been running mine for about a year without any problems. sandman121383
i'm gonna jump in this one too. i had a barnett and the fibers didn't have any red marks on them. so i just put them in and i had no problems.as far as stiffness i got used to it quick BUT if u want alternate springs. use a few barnetts and a few stock.just make sure u alternate them like opposite of eachother (or every other )
fixitrod
I wouldn't think it would make a difference really. I think it's more for reference if you take it apart and put it back together using the same clutch.
Minkia38
red marks do not matter - but i hear your not supposed to line them up - but any other combo is fine... why? i have no idea- thats what a guy at the shop told me btw, you should always soak the new clutch in the oil for an hour before installing it..... no need for rubber rings - throw them away hint: to make clutch better: of the 6 springs, use 3 old (stock) ones, and 3 new ones - the bets of both worlds, better clutch grabbing, AND not as hard of a pull - everyone tends to do it - it still works fine
ledofthezep
you should always soak the new clutch in the oil for an hour before installing it..... I don't know if I let them sit that long but I just let them sit in the oil during the time it took me to take the clutch cover off & pull the old clutch out. Haven't had any problems yet; I used all of the barnett springs.
