shee screams Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I need some help! I rebuilt my top end last summer and I can't get it jetted properly. I have a wiseco piston kit stock size boysen reeds K+N air filter with the lid on the the air box but the snorkle removed I am running Pro Curcuit pipes I burn Amsoil at 30-1, only premium fuel 300 main jets I ride at 3500' to 4000' elevation I have tried to change my needle position to the top and the bottom and it seems to run best in the midle but it bogs very badly in the bottom end. Once I get it up to speed it goes great. It seems a ritch on the bottom end but changeing the needle position makes it worse, I also tried the air screw, it doesn't help either. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me! Quote
sheeweet Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Seems like your pilot circuit. Did you put in some bigger pilot jets yet or are they stock. Stock is #25 and the next size is #275 and then #30. That's the first thing I can think of. I would try 275's then adjust air screws and get some 30's also just in case. Keep the needles in the middle (stock) position. Keep in mind installing bigger pilots will effect the main curcuits since the pilot circuits keep flowing throughout the whole throttle position range, so it could make mains a tad richer. Quote
spoin39 Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Throw some 27.5 pilots in and turn the airscrews out 1.5 turns, and call us back in the morning! Quote
lincster Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Sounds like you are pretty rich. Reeds will richen up your bike a bit since they are more responsive and open easier. At that elevation, with the air box lid on, I would be at about 260-270 on the mains, stock pilot or maybe 27.5 and if you have stock needles, leave them in the middle. Air screws at 1.5-2.0 turns out. Always remember, do a plug chop, that will tell you. Quote
shee screams Posted January 20, 2004 Author Report Posted January 20, 2004 Sorry guys, I forogot to tell you that I tried to change the pilot jets already as well. I tried 30 first they were way to rich then I put in some 27.5 better but still runs terrible. I have aftermarket needles in right now that they sent me with the pipes. they are a bit thiner and 3/8 of an inch longer. I can't put the stock ones back in, because I bent one a bit taking it out. It runs good at wide open throttle with 300 mains, so wouldn't it make it to lean with 260-270 mains? I did the plug chop at wide open thottle, and it is good with the 300's. Thanks for the help so far guys! Quote
Banchetta Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 The 300's are perfect if your plugs are perfect at wot....Your problem is your air cleaner and cover.....your not letting it breathe....I notice a big difference if my air cleaner gets dirty and I clean it, the throttle response and low end is night and day....cut the end of the lid 1.5" so you still have all 4 clips....or run it w/o the lid if you don't ride much mud.....
