Money To Burn

Hi guys, I am going to have some extra cash pretty soon and I want to dump some on my shee. Well i know all kinds of things i want to do but what will be more worth it right now? How about a $1500+ budget. Would you do engine nick nacks or full suspension and including arms, or anything else you would do? This would be adding to the mods I already have in my sig. Thanks. Oh, assume you prefer dunes!

This is my bike now.

if you like to jump and dune, mild motor with suspension, a-arms, axle......you'll love it.

If you dune you really dont need the best suspension. Stock works fine. Go with a +4 stroker crank and get the cylinders ported and some carbs to go with it. If you lenghen that swing arm you will need 22-11-8 tires so leave it stock untill you cant keep the front end down or want a longer swing arm to get over the woops faster if there are any infront of the hill like oldsmobile hill.

It's kind of hard to justify porting and putting in a crank if your motor doesn't even need a rebuild.

When you say prefer dunes, do you like jumping, do you like to drag race, desert ride... What are you trying to accomplish.

If you are pushing the motor to it's max already you need motor mods. If not, you need suspension. If you are happy with it the way it is, make it look good by buying some of that bling bling stuff.

Good call Fixitrod.

Personally, I like the improvement in suspension; even if I was only ridin' dunes I really liked going with +2 a-arms and Works triple rates (cost me $485 for Ricky Stators, $345 for Works). When the sand gets rutted it'll handle so much better. I also really like my Mohawks (about $170 on Douglas .160), and shaving the front fenders. A +2 axle for around $350 may not really help as much on sand, but if you're jumping alot it's well worth it I think. With the $150 you got left you could shave the head, advance the timing 4 degrees via a key or slot the stator plate, port your own reed cages and add some TDR reeds, and maybe even add some nice handlebars...

But you could always do a little bit of everything with the dough; like some suspension upgrades (front shocks), some motor stuff (coolhead, hi-output stator with adjustable timing plate, reeds), and some shiny stuff (Alluminators, front tires), etc.

I was just saying what I would do if I had to do it over. I ported and welded the crank. I could have sold my old crank on ebay and not payed to have it welded and bought a +4 with 795 pistons for about 500. Also once you port the cylinders you will not be able to stroke it and will have to buy new cylinders so you might as well do it all at once if you have the money all at once. Also dunes are smooth becasause the wind blows then that way. You really dont need all the suspension unless you are a fat ass or juice. You could build a +4 stroker with porting and have about 70-75 on pump gas and have a mild motor that last and will haul ass and you will not have to buy that 4-8 dollar race gas. That is what I would do after doing what I have done and if you ride dunes dont get the 2-1 carb you will loose all your top end and in dunes that is what you need.

first i would cut those front fenders off and only then would consider some minor engine mods, like a new head, timing, flywheel lightning, reeds, then at least get new front shocks, good suspension is hard to beat even with a good motor. maybe some good handle bars

Lot's of excellent replies from you guys! Leadfoot came back and made a good case for the stroker motor. I like to go to web sites like Trinity's and look at their kit's. They make stroker kit's sound pretty cool and they make a lot of sense for having some low end ability and still keep the wicked top end, and some other good points about it too.

But I am also a big believer in superior handling. My Zcar handles like a supercar but it only has 287 HP, well more like 300 now, and on a twisty road I feel like it's all I need. I mean because of it's great handling I don't need a lot more HP because I'm already satisfied.

I just got my T5's & K&N's installed so I will probably be satisfied with that power addition for a little while. I'll do a stroker later, my stock motor is still fresh. I like jumping and duning and beating my friends with a Z400 & Raptor in uphill drag races. I wish i had Banshee friends to ride with.

I'm thinking some Works triples with res's in front and +2+1 A-arms, I don't know from who yet. A Vito's degree key is inexpensive and maybe I'll get a head, don't know from who yet. I still have money left so maybe some bling engine covers. And I want to get the TORS elimination kit and parking brake blockoff.

Hey guys what is the technique for cutting stock fenders?

Hey leadfoot, why do you need to get 22x11x8 tires when you get a swing arm extention? And is +4 good for duning?

Do you guys think the stock Raptor style handle bars suck?

I use a hacksaw blade with duct tape wrapped on one end for a handle the file and sand the cut smooth. But there are plenty other ways. Stock bars are very weak and i think they are too high and swept back too. Id recomend a renthal bar with a MX bend (CR high and CR low are popular), it really makes a difference

Thanks rebelbanshee2, I'll take that under advice!

I used a jig saw with the longest blade I could find. It was very easy to control.

Ok about the other mods. You can get things that will be needed in the future for a larger more powerfull motor such as rechamber your head, buy a new head(everyone on here will say noss head but trinity makes a nice one as well but cost more), if you can not use all 6 of your gears in the sand you can go to a 13 front sprocket, v-force reeds, timming plate, or you can just spend it all on suspension if you really think that the stock set up slowing you down. A +4 swing arm puts less weight on the rear tires so you need tires that will hook up better and the 22-11-8's have the most traction. I have a +6 swing arm and now need these tires. I am just rambling on here so I think I am done lol
