FoxBansheeRacing Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 With everything I had before ( Toomey T-5's, Toomey 2-1 filter, Wiseco pistons .20 over) I was running 280's and needles set 3 from the top. My shee is apart right now for upgrades and I need to know what do to with jetting when I put it back together. I will be adding Noss head and 20cc domes, and I am getting cylinder/ intake porting done. What jetting do you suggest? Quote
BenBB Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 The head shouldn't require a jetting change, but the porting will...I'd ask whoever is doing the porting for a ballpark idea on the jetting, they should be able to get you close. Quote
spoin39 Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 If they can't I would go up a size on the main and richen the needle a bit by using a "half clip washer". If you don't have one you can find them at the dealer. Just put it under the clip so it raises it slightly. Quote
Banchetta Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 I'd go up a couple of sizes to start and maybe one on the pilots. Quote
FoxBansheeRacing Posted January 15, 2004 Author Report Posted January 15, 2004 Do you mean go up a couple sizes on the main jets, like to a 290 or 300? How is the weather going to affect the jetting? I would like to set it so I won't have to mess with it again in the spring/summer. Quote

Depends on how much of a temp change your talking....I adjusted my jetting for 40-50 degrees and run it rich in the summer at 80-90 degrees out.....I run my sled in the winter....One jet size for every 20 degrees difference..If you want top performance, then you have to change the jetting... FoxBansheeRacing Posted January 16, 2004 Author Report Posted January 16, 2004 I would just like to set it so it will run its best in between 70 and 90 degrees. What will my plugs look like if it was jetted for that temp, in around 30 degree weather. When I took them out they were a dark brown(after riding in 30 degree weather). Quote

If you jetted it for 70 degrees then rode in 30 degree weather, then you'd melt the pistons.....Its safe to run rich w/ some power lost, but you can't run lean due to motor damage.....for every 20 degrees out will be a jet size change....I'd jet it for the colder weather now and just change the jets in the spring for spring/summer range...either that or jet it for 30 degrees out and see how it runs in the summer.... FoxBansheeRacing Posted January 18, 2004 Author Report Posted January 18, 2004 Are you saying it would run to lean in the winter if it was jetted for 70 degrees? If I jet it in 30-50 weather at 290 mains, will going back to 280 in the summer(70-90) be enough? Quote
Banchetta Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 290 for the 30-50, and 270 for 70-90 Quote
spoin39 Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I would say 290-300 in summer and go up in winter, Toomeys like at least 280 with just pipes, so 290-300 should work great when it's warm, go up a size for every 20 degrees drop in temp for winter. Quote
