How Big Are The Dunes.............

Recommended Posts

Little Sahara in Utah is just over 38,000 acres if I remember right, and St Anthonys is around 45,000 acres.

Sand mountain is around 800 feet to the top, but I think only about 600 is rideable.

At St. Anthonys I have no idea how tall those dunes are, but I can think of 3-4 that are ENORMOUS. Especially Choke Cherry and Devils Bowl. I couldn't make it up Choke Cherry with my stock pipes. I had a milled head and lightened flywheel with advanced timing, and it would not make it. Once I had the T-5's it went up it quite well. <_<

Little Sahara at Waynoka OK is 1520 acres, and the website says the dunes are from 25-75 ft. tall. Lots of good trails to ride, and also a place for everyone to drag race.

Glamis is way larger, I have been there 4 different trips of at least a week each time and still haven't ridden it all. I probably spend way too much time on certain favorite areas! The dunes at Glamis are much larger, and there are also huge bowls to ride in. This is by far my favorite place to ride, but also one of the farthest from me.

Hi guys:

Does anyone know if any 4x4s have ever tried Choke Cherry or Sand Mountain?

I showed someone with a 4x4 some videos depicting sport ATVs climbing (or trying to) Choke Cherry. He responded that his stock Honda 500 4x4 would chug it's way right up it.

I've never been there. Is this true or he full of $hit? Would 4x4s make it up Choke Cherry so effortlessly that it isn't enjoyable and that is why I've never seen any on the videos?

I am going to have to make the 9-10 hour trip to Little Sahara this summer to see for myself.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

sahara is like a gnat compared to glamis, the biggest hills might be 50-75ft tall and usually have a hell of a lip at the top of them so hill shooting isnt the best

but for around this area its is a blast

Glamis is huge, but getting smaller every year.

I have personally witnessed big chunks of the dunes "closed" to protect the milk weed over the last few years alone.

The whole area is roughly 175,000 acres. You can still ride on more than two-thirds of the sand dunes, or over 118,000 acres.

Some of big bowls near Gecko are 300-500 ft. from base to razorback.

Buttercup and Gordons have smaller dunes.

What about Wynoka OK.

That's where I do most of my riding. Suits me just fine, granted it's not the biggest & baddest; but it's still a great place to ride. I wouldn't even compare it to any other places...but I hear that the biggest dunes at LS,OK are like the smaller dunes leading to the big dunes at St. Anthony.

1000'-1500' tall?  ............mabey 500'. Glamis and St. Anthony have way taller dunes.....Granted they don't have the ocean veiw like alot of oregon dunes do!

Agreed! We have some huge dunes out here. I've heard of a 700' one at Winchester but my parents were down at Glamis and said some of the dunes there are much bigger. Too bad it's so damn far away!!
