What Mods For Best Reliable Low/midrange Power?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering. I am currently dealing with an old buddy on his '97 shee that has been setting up in the back of his shop for over 3 years now. All I know he has done to the quad is he fixed the air box, tapped the rear axle carrier and installed a grease zerk, has LRD adjustable pipes, and rejetted.

If I get my hands on the shee, I am not going to take a chance, just go ahead and tear it all down and start from scratch. Was wanting some advice on getting some major reliable hp. My best friend has a '87 Quadzilla and we just installed his new motor that was built by Trinity, and has a Stave IV head, major port, 44mm carb, pipe/silencer etc., etc. and Trinity told him it is putting out at least 90hp and no more then 100hp on pump gas. This thing will dislocate your shoulders if you don't watch it.

Well, that Zilla is already pretty light and he only weighs 165lbs. compare to the 215lbs. I weigh. I think it is going to be impossible to beat him. I was just wanting something easy to tune, reliable, lots of low and midrange power.

Here is what I was thinking:

+4mm crank

Wiseco 795's

Port? what kind of port?

Head? Maybe a Nosshead

Trinity CV 2-to-1 carb 35mm+? Like the fact of 1 carb to jet, less weight, cleaner

DMC 916's (love the looks)

adjustable stator +4*

Beefier clutch Hinson? Barnett?

reeds & ported cages

gearing?

I have a budget of about $2,500. I should get a few bucks selling the LRD's that are already on so that helps some.

Oh, I will be riding lots and lots of back roads and trails. Will also go to the dunes about 3-4 times a year.

And what should I expect out of this type of set-up. Will it be alright when I go play in the sand any?

I wish I would have never gotten rid of my '01 Shee. Had to at the time though.

Thanks for any help and wish me luck on getting the '97.

Justin

You've got some decent pipes on it to start with. I would ride it the way it is for at least a few months if not a whole season and then decide where you want to improve it. Banshee's can be made to do whatever you want and if you want to be able to ride and still get a rush, then think of maybe a 2:1 carb kit. Once you get used to the lack of low end on the banshee, you'll be happy you didn't create a banshee with low end in mind.

Save your $2500 for mods that you KNOW you want to make and not just mods you like to brag about having.

Very True. I made hold on and try to get it running at first. My buddy that is selling his Banshee said the top end is good, but needs some cleaning and such since it has been setting up for a while.

I guess I need to set back and do some more researching on this site and see if my first instincts are right or if some other combo will better suite me.

Thanks

Yepper. Learn how to work the clutch & get a feel for it the way it is & I bet you'll be happy. I can get power to the ground whenever I need it.

And for $2500,...you could get you some new a-arms with badass shocks, and shorten your rear swinger and get a new rear shock. Then shee'll handle much better. ;)

4mm crank, good porting ( i reccomend passion racing engines), bigger carbs (30s, 33s, 34s, 35s), head and domes, keep those pipes see how they run. it will fucking rock!! plenty of lowend and more then enough top. and you could reach around 90hp with that setup if done right.
