Will I Regret Selling The Bansh For A Raptor?

Recommended Posts

I'm sick of constant problems and worrying about every little thing...I'm thining or getting a Raptor. Will I regret it? I don't need to go insanely fast...I just want to have fun and not worry about stuff breaking. Of course things will break from time to time, but Banshees are maintanence machines. Whats the power like on the Raptors? Kinda like the LTZ's? Thats all I've really ridden for 4 strokes...thats what all my friends have.

read the maintanence schedule for your banshee, then for a fourstroke i think you'll find the 4 stroke requires more maintance.....most people think a four stroke requires less, cause they dont do any at all......why is a banshee a "Maintanence Machine"?.......

i think you will regret it. banshee maintenance is very simple. change gear oil and make sure ur premix is up to par. clean air filter. a top end rebuild on a banshee is very cheap. you need to go and compare against a 4 stroke. you have oil, oil filter, air filter. after so much riding most need to have valves adjusted. look into a rebuild for a 4 stroke. i have heard they can cost up to $2000 if you really mess something up. i think you should really reconsider what you are about to do. im sure there are others who have some insight on the 4 stroke rebuild as well.

just playing around with the thought...ill probly end up keepin the banshee but who knows. I guess the thing that swayed my opinion is everyone else just starts up their quads and go...while I have to sit and check things and mix gas and do a million little things. Half way through the day I need to go tighten this and that...just gets annoying.

like i said most four stroke riders just ride the bike into the ground...checking to see if everything is tight goes for any bike and has nothing to do with the 2 cycle motor, wait until your doing a top end on the four stroke.......id suggest you just start the bansh and go....who gives a shit if parts fall off cause they are not tight...before i ride my bike ill go around it with a 12,14,17,19 mm wrench just for shits and grins...same as id do if it was a four stroke.....i dont like pushing bikes through the desert, id rather ride em..........

I think your maintenance problems come from the age of your machine. If your profile is correct you have a machine thats 14 years old this year. That much time will take it's toll on any machine. Banshee's typically handle 7-8 years before any major motor problems arise. If you don't keep the machine in tip top shape it will not last that long and problems compound themselves just as they would on a four stroke. Rebuilding a four stroke is a much more involved process and costs much more money if you don't do the work yourself. Raptors have their share of problem (one way bearing, upper a arms bending, crank rods breaking after mods, and some other minor ones). Pricing out some of this stuff makes Banshee parts seem down right cheap.

i once thought about a getting a 4 stroke then got to thinking whats easier to maintain and rebuild? well less moving parts no cranckcase oil no oil filter other then that everythings about the sameso unless i do something really stupid i think the shee should last awhile

yeah what's the deal with the "high maintainence" stuff anyway. chain adjusting, sprocket and brake wear, air filter cleaning, fluid checks, frequent lubing, bolt checks, and whatever else should be the same for any ride. and there's a big difference between used, and abused machines. that's why i bought mine new. too many people mess with shit and don't really know what they are doing, and the next guy pays for it. for your own safety, and prevention of getting stranded somewhere, any ride should be taken care of regularly. banshee's are no worse than anything else. but like the others said, in my experiences, i'd rebuild a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke anyday.

this goes for any motor powered vehicle. the better you take care of it the longer it will last. if all your worried about is breaking something everytime you ride then you aint doing something right. i go out to have a blast, last thing on my mind is having a break down, and because of the maintainence i perform on my shee's they dont. biggest regret i have is buying my wife a warrior, i hear when the valves start messing up its an 1800.00 job to fix it. all in all youd be better off with a banshee and a better understanding of it. if you do trade or sell your shee, youll regret it big time.

Banshee's are not that bad for mantinence. If you rering it every year and maybe a whole new top end if it needs it, it should last a long time. If you have an old quad no matter if its a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke you will be wrenching on it. My friend has i think an 88 lt230 quadsport and thats a fourstroke and its broken down way more then my 87 shee. You will definitly regret selling it for a raptor. Hell i regret riding any other fourwheeler after being on a shee, its kinda disapointing.

I had a 03 LE Raptor with over $3,500 in the engine and suspension with all the work done by myself, and it was very fast but after just one ride one my friends Shee the Raptor was sold and I now have a 04 Shee and have never been happier. The Raptor is fast but it is such a smooth power delevery that it is boring compared to the arm ripping power band of a modified Shee................with that said DON'T DO IT! :D

My main riding buddy has a warrior...He can't ride it right now because he has to do his maintenance...without tearing it down yet we already know it needs rings, timing chain(which I hear is a beotch), possible bore, and a new carb. We're HOPING that he won't need valves or anything else. I tell you what though, I was reading about someone not wanting a used and abused banshee; I bought mine for $500, came with everything except a running engine. EVERYTHING was loose and wore out it seemed. I spent about another $500 and grabbed a good friend of mine to help rebuid it, have had not ONE major problem with it. Only thing I have had to do is routine maintenance, something you should do to every motorized vehicle. I personally think the banshee is REALLY simple to maintain. Even when it comes to an engine rebuild, the hardest part about it is coming up with the money to rebuild it! I'm keeping my shee until I'm too damn old to kick it over!! :)
