Geting Race Ready

Recommended Posts

Have decided to start desert racing this next year a couple of my friends have convinced me to try it out since they do well and can usually beat them when the practice. Now that I don’t have a nagging girlfriend I got some free time. It is mostly dessert racing but a few have some moto xxx tracks incorporated. I would like to know some Mods that would help increase horsepower I am getting new A-arms that are +1, +2 and new shocks all around what else is recommended.

I've never done desert racing but for what i've seen on tv those long travel a-arms and shocks look like the business. No point haveing all that speed if ya cant hang on cause the bikes jumping around everywhere

Get an aftermarket axle if you plan on jumping, I use my shee mainly for trails and still managed to bend my stocker 3 times before I coughed up the cash for a stronger one.

Mabey a bigger tank depending on the length of the races

Blue Duece should be able to help you out on some Desert Mods, I am pretty sure he has a desert shee

along with XTShee's good post....if your doing long night races, you may want to look into a higher wattage stator & some bigger lights. If you haven't already, you'll proabably want to get rid of the stock shitter tires, at least the rears. And like stated above, get some good suspension...What mods do you have currently?--may help in getting more suggestions.

I don't have any engine work done I have

T 5 Pipes

K&N Filter

Just ordered the new a-arms with shocks and going to send the rear shock in aswell.

new whole shoot tires in the back and that is it, I Know the gas tank is not a big concern most races i could make on the stock two of my budies have the bigger tanks and one still sportin stock. I wanted to get some more power and speed without having to use High octane fuel cause Im a Baller on a budget.

Haha... :D Know what ya mean... :P

Sounds like you're set on the suspension side of things for the most part....for long races you may look into a stearing stabalizer. I haven't ran one myself so I couldn't tell ya if they're worth the $$, but I see them on a lot of desert racers...As far as the motor, you could look into either getting a new head or save some $$ and mill your stock head to boost your compression a bit. Also, if you're going to be hauling ass across the desert a lot; you could probably adjust your gearing a bit.

Keep an eye on this thread, I'm sure more people will throw in their $.02 also. ;)

Does any one have a stiering stablizer and is it worth the money? I would think soo but just wanted to get some opions.

Scotts stabilizer...best one you can get and a must for the long haul through the desert.....you need to gear it tall also, you want to be able to haul ass yet still have some throttle left for obsticles, properly setup shocks will do wonders, the more cozy you can get your bike the better, a shock mounted steering stem helps also...its easy to stay pinned for a few minutes, but to avarage some speed takes endurance....practice on the roughest terrain you can find, and try to relax while your being pounded, its kinda like a baseball player swinging 2 bats before he comes up to the plate.....id go for suspension and chassis mods first.......

what do you suggest for chase mods?

a stretched front end and for open riding the stock rear end is ok, great suspension ..the scotts stabilizer is a must its like auto pilot i can let go of my bars at high speeds and my bike tracks nice and straight....it doesnt twitch or veer........if yo think about keeping your banshee pinned for a long haul, thats what open desert riding is like, you dont need to climb or jump....just haul ass and hang on....
