Cotton eyed Joe
I have 20" 8 paddle tires on 10 inch rims right now, and they are fine for a stock bike, but now that I'm a not so seasoned pro, I am hopefully going to upgrade to 21x12x8 8 paddle extremes haulers. I liked the 20 inchers, and I can still get them to hook up well in the sand with my 55-60ish HP. What I'm looking for now is more cushion for the landings, and less dings in the bead. I have a rubber ballast hammer that I take to the dunes to beat the lip of the rim back to where its supposed to be after every 3rd or 4th trip. With a 20" tire and 10" rim, thats 5" of sidewall. A 5" rock is not a very big rock, and most roots near trees and shit at the dunes can stick out that far if you go into a grove or small forest like they have near Sand Mountain Ut. 21" tire on an 8" rim would give me 6.5" of sidewall. And inch and a half might just make all the difference in the world.

ledofthezep
Here's the response I got back from them led They only make King's Tires in a 20" with 8 paddles. They're $139.00 on 8" wheels and $159.00 on 10". Right on! Hell, that's a better deal than what I got. Or that's probably the same...but without taxes added on. You won't be disapointed if you decide to go with them.
eehsnab2
I ran 10 inch rims and a 20 inch tire for awhile and then went to 20x10X8 which was an improvement. Then I got tired of that and went to 22x11x8 9 paddle which is by far my favorite...
Chemical Castration
Go with a set of 21" or 22" haulers seeing that you have a stock swinger and ride on moist sand you shouldnt get 10 paddles hell 9 paddles would be pushing it IMO but you should go with either 8 or 9 paddle. fixitrod
I ran 8 paddle 20" last year. I borrowed them minkia. I spun them all the time. That's before the 4mm.
Ducman
Anyone have any opinions about the GBC paddle master. It's advertised as being able to handle tough terain and not break paddles, one of the preferences in fixitrods sand tire question, but I wonder how do they work in the soft deep sand like Oregon doons. Are they worth considering since they are only $50 per tire at Rocky Mountain for a 20x11x10. I like the hauler more but they're a bit more expensive, like $30 per tire, or is the performance of the hauler worth it? I don't mean to intrude on the original question so please ignore if this is rude, but, I would like to know if I shouldn't even get straight paddles if I plan on just playing around in the sand some of the time; stuff involving turning on the doons, brodies ect. I enjoy hill climbs mostly but I want somthing that can be fun and perform reasonably well for other stuff as well. So far I've only had experience with 250r's using "V" shaped paddles and I wasn't real impressed with their hill climb capabilities. Thanks, Zack Thanks, ledofthezep, for the tip on the "Sand King's Turbo Paddles" 20-10-10 8 paddle this sounds like it may be the tire for me; inexpensive and great performance. No problem, if you like all around dune'n & not strictly drag they're awesome; but work fine for the occasional dragger too. It's just too bad they don't yet have more options--# of paddles & sizes like skat trak. I'm more than satisfied with mine, I let my buddy run them on his EX & he's getting rid of his geckos for some now.
Wallrat
Gecko's are terrible. They're heavy and don't hook up well at all - better off with knobbies. As far as rim size goes, you'll get better performance out of a bigger rim. You don't see bus tires on a corvette. I run 20" sand stars (those are V-blades Ducman) on 10" blue labels for all around duning. Great tires and only cost me $205 for the set. I have a mostly stock bike and I can still get up hills pretty quick in 3rd. I mostly jump my bike in the dunes and I haven't had any problems with egging or dings yet. ledofthezep
My g/f's little brother just got some of those 20" sand stars. They look slick & seem to hook up great. He likes them a lot anyway. I wouldn't mind trying some sometime just for shits. He paid $205 also.
fixitrod
Okay, I have a wanted add up for some 21 or 22 inch tires. I may have a problem with that though. I have nerf bars and am concerned the paddle may hit the nerf if I get tires that big. They are ac pro-pegs. What do you think.
fixitrod
I just measured from my razors and I have 5inch. A 22" tire would only add one inch plus the depth of the paddle. I shouldn't have any trouble.
fixitrod
Okay, I just ordered some using a mix of all suggestions. Here's what I orderes Skat-Trak extreme haulers 21x12x8 9 paddle. I'm hopeing the combination of answers I received that these will work for Dumont as well as silver lake.
