01bansheefox
When i get new heads I was told at the yamaha shop I should get 17cc domes. Im at sea level maybe a few hundred above "not much" SST's- K&N- jetted.
Wallrat
So what's your question? Can it be done? Sure if you don't mind running race gas. You'll have detonation problems with pump gas and 17cc domes.
dlnoss
17cc domes are REAL small for sea level, a stock crank, and anything but race gas. Are you ported? The Yamaha shop may want to do a total rebuild for you.
01bansheefox
Im kinda asking is 17cc right? Thought i read before with something that low you need stronger crank and some other stuff for my engine? But they know my engine is stock except for what i listed. It is not ported. bri98
Race Fuel will be a MUST if you go with th 17cc domes, and welding the crank is never a bad idea especially with high compression. I run 16cc domes at 600 above sea level. For fuel I run Sunoco 110 octane I could probably get away with 104.
Dragg-on
what type of riding and why do you need 17cc domes?
01bansheefox
I dont know why i need 17cc thats what the yamaha shop said I should put in my shee if I put on a NOSS head or something. I just do like MX whenever i go to the track and cruise around fields and hills out in the country.
dlnoss
If your engine is stock except for what you mentioned and you want to run pump gas, I'd go with 21cc domes. If you want to run a mix or straight race gas, you could go with 20cc or 19cc domes. I usually don't recommend anything smaller than 19cc at sea level without a welded crank. dlnoss
hey dlnoss can u run pump gas with 21 domes??? Most of the time you can run premium pump gas with 21cc domes. In your profile it looks like you are ported running advanced timing. What is your elevation and your compression with the 22cc domes? -David

dlnoss
21's would probably be better. Is a shop doing the porting?
