06 banshee 2023
Hey guys, I have an ‘02 banshee that I’ve rebuilt and there are some tranny problems, when I would shift into 2nd gear it would sometimes pop out into neutral, when I shift to 6th gear it will always pop out into neutral. I’ve changed the eccentric screw, clutch basket and the shift shaft spring. When I bench tested the shifting it would sometimes get stuck out of gear, the thing that’s supposed to sit in the dips of the shift star would get stuck on the peaks but I was told it was fine because the engine had to be under load, even though I was spinning the shaft. Also, if I ride like this and just skip second and 6th would it damage the gears?
locogato11283
Have you tried swapping out your detente spring?

No, just replaced the eccentric and shift shaft spring, the problem is only second gear pops out when I shift to it at high rpm, and 6th gear never works
locogato11283
Shift forks are good? Something isn’t engaging properly, especially if you can’t get into 6th.

When I tore down the motor they looked fine, no cracks or anything, I think the 6th gear pinion has a broken tooth but all the dogs were fine
06 banshee 2023
I don’t want to take down the motor if I don’t have to as the season is here and the weathers perfect to drive for the next few months, I don’t mind not having 6th gear but I need 2nd, would I need to split cases to fix the 2nd gear issue? It only sometimes doesn’t fo into gear whereas 6th never works
locogato11283
Yes, you'll have to split cases unless it's something on the clutch side. You can pull the stator/plate and the clutch parts and flip the motor over. No need to pull the top end.
06 banshee 2023
what are the chances of it being something on the clutch side
06 banshee 2023
And if it is splitting cases, it would most likely be the shift forks right
06 banshee 2023
If I remember correctly when bench shifting, it shifted well without the gears, just the forks and the drum. But when out of gears it would sometimes get stuck between gears
