fixitrod
The clutch kit has the plates, steels, and springs most of the time. You can get the plates seperate if everything else is good. Say you bought an aftermarket clutch and the steels and springs are still good.... just buy the plates. Most likely, you'll need the kit. Well, you'll need a gasket or some yamabond, a clutch kit and if you want a basket.... buy one. There are a lot of baskets out there. I bought a hinson just because I've heard of them on many occasions. Oh, you need some tranny oil and antifreeze too. Razor blades work good for getting the old yamabond off. Also, you may want to look into replacing those shitty phillips heads with allen heads. Stainless is nice. Have fun!!!

fixitrod
The instructions say soak them for 15 or 30 min. I don't remember. I don't know what the bec is. I bought a barnett. Maybe one is kevlar and one isn't.
illboogie
i meant ebc so kevlar is the way to go?
SCOTT PRESSLEY
You will need to soak the fiber plates in the oil you are running in the case.EBC is a good kit .
fixitrod
Kevlar is good. Just don't use kevlar if you are going to run a hinson pressure plate. I think it wears them out. Other than that, kevlar is great.

Meat
Iv used EBC clutches ever since iv been riding. Iv tired Barnett once and it grabbed and lasted just like the EBC, the only difference I noticed was the Barnett clutches cost more. I have a spare brand new EBC clutch kit waiting to get installed, but after I use that one up, im gonna try one of the $30 dollar Tusk clutches from Rocky Mountian. Id think all of the billet clutch baskets are the same, your gonna pay more for the Hinson name. Someone(Iridea250r maybe) posted that they are not all equal, that he ate up clutch baskets till he put in a Hinson. Iv seen a clutch basket in the ATV magazine ads that has stainless steel "covers" on all of the "fingers" on the clutch basket...... to protect the fingers from grooving. Sounds like a good idea to me, my stock basket on my '88 motor had every one of those fingers grooved. I think Motion Pro is the company with this new basket with the stainless finger protectors. Iv talked to the guys at Hinson about thier clutch recommendations and they want you to use a stock factory Yamaha clutches. They say the aftermarket clutches are too abrasive and they will wear the fingers out on the clutch basket. Now I dont know this for sure, but id bet if you groove the fingers on a Hinson clutch basket from using an aftermarket clutch, Id bet Hinson would tell you "tuff shit" on any kind of warrenty.
