SHEE DO BE RIPPIN
this winter i purchased a frame of restored banshee. the guy brought the motor to be professionally rebuilt by the best place around me and by the best guys, and i know the guys who rebuilt it and they're the best around here. it was top to bottom rebuilt. anyways, i take it for a ride down the road kinda taking it easy Everything is good. later that week i take it down the road just dies, i kick it and starts but left cylender is popping and miss firing, i kill it immiedetly, amd thats when i realize theres no fuel in lines, i turn res on try agian, same thing. i put a choke on and tried again and it was fine, I turned the choke off and drove home fine. its been running great since but the right cylinder is a little smokier and more powerful exhaust than the left one, and also there seams to be more heat on the right side, but it ran great so i just assumed just some fine tuning. but today i was riding and was doing a couple donuts in the grass, not aggressive or anything and it got traction and stalled, i start it up and at first i though the throttle was stuck wide it was running super wack, and then i realize its on one cylinder, i put it in the pickup and drove it home, and it wont start at all now. i cleaned plugs and am getting new ones to try tomorrow. when i pulled the plugs the left one looked really dry but black, there were also little chunks of metal in the spark plug. i used a super crappy compression tester and i got it up to 110psi, but it normally shows less than it is. it has 3.4 hrs on it. i think the left carb might be gummed up, seems to not be getting fuel on the left side. I also found that the gas tank gets compressed it squirks gas out the breather whenever i stop after riding. any ideas??
Jereme6655
What does the other cylinder show with your compression tester? What modifications are done to the motor? Lookup how to build a leakdown tester and check it before you take anything off the motor. Then report back. What fuel and oil are you running? SHEE DO BE RIPPIN
The Other cylinder testing the same. For mods it’s got: wiesco pistons and rings, new oem crank, aggressive port job, adjustable timing plate, Cool head with 21cc domes, boss racing 28-32mm intake, V-Force reeds, 30mm Keihin carbs, billet water pump, ebc clutch, DMC alien exhaust, oversized radiator. Probably more that I missed but. it’s stock cylinder, I run 91 octane pump gas, with high performance Lucas oil semi-synthetic mixed at 40:1. the leak down tester seems like a bit of a hassle I’ll probably do I brief look down to see if I have any cracked boots or something I can see before I do the leak down test. What fuel and oil are you running? do you think it could possibaly be the left carb is gummed up or not getting fuel, i definataly flooded it trying to get it started yet the left plug was dry. when it died in the field there was an air bubble in the left fuel line and also i kinda went a little uphill no clue if that does anything. Jereme6655
Could be a stuck float. But you also say that the fuel tank is being “compressed”….. which is a real odd one. I would first pull the fuel line off and see if it supplies good flow….. both with AND without the fuel tank cap screwed on. Also if the fuel hose is not fuel rated, it could be delaminating inside and blocking off flow. I’ve never seen a banshee do it, but I guess there’s a VERY small chance you could be vapor locking the fuel line also….

So I haven’t had to get a good look in because I’ve been pretty busy, but I did look and the carb boots are extremely cracked so I would assume that’s the issue, but it’s weird since the right side (the good side) seemed to be a lot worse. I’ve ordered the new boots they come tomorrow and then I will be putting new iridium BR9EIX plugs in, and do an oil change. I’ll let you know how that goes. SHEE DO BE RIPPIN
I got it going after replacing the plugs oil and carb boots, but only on one cylinder. So I just cleaned the carb still won’t go.
Jereme6655
It needs 4 things. -A fuel supply -Compression (check it again…hold throttle wide open and kick until needle stops) -Spark (at the right time…. Check timing, pickup gap, and that you actually have spark at both plugs) -Air
