Kermit, Tx Dunes

Recommended Posts

YES! I go to Kermit a few times a year, awesome dunes for this area. I don't know for sure how they compare to Little Sahara, OK because I've never been there, but here's what I know:

The dunes are roughly 5 miles by 7 miles of pure sand. The hills aren't huge but there are a few good bowls, lotsa rolling dunes, a couple decent places to drag race, and some awesome trails. There's a paved parking area with covered picnic tables, but no water or toilets. There's no entry fees or regulations. Holiday weekends during the winter have a good turnout, but I was there Thanksgiving and it was nowhere near "too crowded". I'd guess 8-12 rails, maybe 40-50 quads at the most.

Best time to go? Whenever you can make it! Let me know if you're headed that way and I'll try to be there, at least for the day (about a 3 hour drive for me to get there). If you need directions or any more info lemme know.

I can probably make that, just let me know when it gets closer. I have some pics somewhere but I don't think they are very good. I've talked to some guys that have been to LS also and they liked both; in general they said LS has a ton of people and maybe some bigger hills but Kermit is a larger area. Personally I'd rather not have to worry about hitting a 4-seat rail headon all the time...you can ride for hours in the center and barely see anyone else at Kermit. And if you get lost (yes I have) you can just pick a direction and head that way; eventually you'll either hit one of the two highways that border the dunes or pick up the perimeter trail that runs along the edge of the whole dune area (that trail is a blast). And the people there (mostly Texans) are ALWAYS the coolest, half the time I go by myself and can always hook up with a group there to ride with, I always have a good time and meet some great people. If you get a chance it's worth the trip.

Little sahara isnt to bad sometimes it just depends

Yeah...really does. Some weekends suck when it's hella busy & the sand's all torn to shit & the rangers walk around like little rambos & people get crazy, then get hurt...seen it all down there. But then there's weekends where there's just a handfull of people & it's the shizzle too....quiet camping, less arrogant rangers, & smooth sand. If you ever get a chance, hit LS in the middle of a week sometime not around any holidays...good riding time. Either way I still manage to get sandy & have a good time.

But where is this place in TX?...may get a wild hair sometime. B)

I know what u mead the rangers are some real dicks sometimes, Cant wait to see what they are going to treat people like a snake hunt this year. Kermit is quite a drive for me also it would have to be on hell of a wild hair for me to end up there.

Hey guys, i live about 45min away from Kermit, and have been there numerous times. It's a pretty good place to ride, but gets pretty crowded with some people that don't belong on a quad. My friend rode at Little Sahara OK and he said that the Kermit dunes are so much better. If ya'll are serious about riding, shoot me a PM there are some dunes closer to my hometown that are not as crowded and just as good that few people know about. But give me a shout if ya'll have any ?????
