Wassup350
I'm trying to replace the axle bearings, and i can't get my axle out of the housing. Is there some sort or trick to doing this, or should i take it somewhere to get it pulled?
silveradohd
Your best bet is to take axle to a dealership or other shop that has a tool. My uncle had the same problem. He banged it out, but hurt the spline's in return.
Aussie Quad Racer
You need a big rubber mallet or a good peice of hard wood to place over the end of the axle, then have fun trying to hit that puppy out. PS Take the axle nuts off first
SDD
Go buy a cheap deep well socket that will fit over the threads. Take a BFH and smash that thing out of there. The socket will push on the flat area of the end of the axle so you will not damage the threads at all.
.
What SDD said.....dont do it any other way. You'll mess up the castle nut threads and then have quite a mess on your hands. You could get it pulled too. But thats a lot of hassle as well. If it dont come off the BFH way, then pull the carrier off and go get it pulled
spoin39
Put your wheel hub nut on backwards so the flat end is facing out, put a piece of wood over that and hit it with a big fu@&$*? hammer!
.
Thats exactly what we're telling you what not to do......unless you wanna strip some threads.....or feel lucky
Big Blue
A big mallet and a pieace of wood, A buddy of mine made a thing that you can screw all the way on so you can hit it with a hammer, it works great havent had any trouble with tearing up treads with it yet. limitied03
Hell i jus took the axle nuts loose and mine slid right out....but mine was pretty new when i changed it................
rebelbanshee2
when you go to put it back in grease the shot out if it and get grease fitting on the carrier, drill a hole in that spacer so grease can get to the axle out easy again
Skiddz
Get a big BRASS hammer and you can beat the snot outta the threaded end all day without buggering the threads. The hammer will probably get f00ked up, but that's it's job. That same hammer can be used to beat the crap outta the swingarm bolt to get it out. Just went through this exercise on my 'shee a couple weeks ago.. Took a torch, lots of penetrating oil and a BFH to get it out.
Big Blue
Also a good idea would be to put some never seiz(sp) on the inside of the carrier and on your axle so you dont have to worry about them getting stuck, this has always worked for mine. Wassup350
Thanks guys, too bad i read this a day after i got it together. I ended up breakin out the propane torch and heated that sucker up. Then used a mallet to bang it out and it popped right out. It took some time and thinking but me and my buddy got it out. Getting the new bearings in was tricky but we got em in. It gave me a chance to paint my axle carrier metallic silver, it looks sweeet. BTW what is a BHF, all you guys are saying this but i can't figure it out.
