a j-arm frame is the same as an a-arm frame except the top a-arms are j shaped and thats why is called a j-arm frame, you can get an j-arm to a-arm conversion kit but it'll cost you an extra $150 or you can just get a good set of j-arms but I'v heard they are weaker then a-arms but i haven't had any problems with them. and i have a j-arm frame. hope that helps

you dont need a conversion kit man, just cut the extra bracket or extra pipe that you will need to have, cut them off you a-arm frame and just weld them on your j-arm frame and bam you have a a-arm frame and wount have to risk bending j-arms and or buying the conversion kit. jayare

The j-arm frame will work, or you can make it work, but I would consider a couple things:

1. J-arm frames were on '87 to '91 (I think '91, maybe it was '90) Banshees, so keep the age thing in mind...how many hours of pounding it may have had over the years, corrosion (visible or otherwise), etc.

2. It'll be a little lighter than an a-arm frame so better for drag racing, but for anything else I would prefer a-arms. Especially if you have or wanted aftermarket a-arms for more width, durability, etc.

3. How bad is your frame now? Might be worth repairing...or waiting on a better one.

I just bought the J to A arm conversion "kit" for my '87 rebuild project. $189 from www.atvracing1.com. Comes already fabbed up with a new upper arm bolt and a jig to get it all aligned before you weld it off.

Ordered a set of +2+1 A arms from gary at Quicksand Motorosports to go with it. Both Gary and I agreed that a beefier solution than cutting off the rear of the original J-mount would be to leave it, and just modify the spacer tube so there would be 3 points of contact instead of two for the upper mount.

I'm expecting the conversion kit early next week and will get it welded in as soon as it shows up. I'll post pics then.

Hell forget a J-arm frame. Personally i think you would be better off finding a newer frame. I've seen cheap a-arm frames on ebay for around 100 bucks. But you just have to take what you can get. It might take a while to find a deal though, if you found that deal on the j-arm frame and you need it now, id take it.

yea you can pickup an A arm frame, but then you'll have to remove everything from your J-arm frame and then re-bolt it too the A-arm frame. Thats alot of time and work. For some\alot of guys its just easier to weld in a few peices of steel\conversion kit. And good luck trying to find a straight, good condition A-arm frame for under $189.

How well did the ATVRacing kit fit into your frame ?? I mean, did you have to tweak it to fit properly ??

I got the kit this past Tuesday. The frame was at the powdercoater getting sandblasted and I didn't get it back until Thursday. Once I did, I used the included jig and bolted the conversion piece in place. Fit like it was made for it. hehe

Both the frame and the conversion are at the welding shop. I'm having the frame checked for cracks and doing some additional welding on suspension mounts and gussets to beef it up a bit more. I was expecting the frame back today, but after talking to the shop earlier, they said they hadn't even started on it yet.

As soon as I get it back, I'll post pics of the conversion. My new A-arms might be here by then too..

And to answer your previous question, shipping was about $6 to So CA.

Got the frame back from the welding shop today. They did a nice job with it and I snapped a couple pix of it on the tailgate of my truck before I dropped it off at the powdercoater. Battery in the dig-cam took a crap on me as I was sucking the latest pix off the flash card. As soon as it's recharged, I'll post pics here:
