i find electrical tape works best for marking out your lines you can bend it like pin striping as it goes on. either this or crayola markers that you can rub off with water (or those ones you use on overhead projectors just dont let it dry on) i always used a jigsaw for cutting my plastics but they can be ahrd to get into tight spots if your leaving the plastics on the quad while you cut. a dremel with the cutting bit attachment works best.

I did mine right were the flat part or top of the actual fender goes into the downward angle, looks good I think. One more thing you guys can use to plain out the fender after cutting them is to take a handheld wood planner (the one with the razor blades) and go over the cut off areas, makes them look like factory cuts! And if you save the fender, you can get some stainless stell or aluminum tabs with some good quality machine screws  and reinstall them if you want to trail ride.

Here's a picture.

I used a 3" cut off wheel. Then I used a sanding block and some 220 grit followed with some 400 grit to smooth out the cuts and round the edges.

I used a tape to measure in from the edge where to cut at the top and bottom of the plastic, and then laid some masking tape down. When I cut, I did about 1/2 first so there wouldn't be so much plastic in my way. Then when I cut the second I had a little practise on how the wheel was going to react. It worked out pretty well, and I got burned by a lot of flying hot plastic. Wear saftey glasses.

I cut mine similar to Cotton eyed Joe. I used a black sharpie marker. Rough cut it with a saws all. Went back with a hack saw blade to do a fine cut. Used a dremel and sanding disk to flatten any wows. Used fine sand paper to finish it. Used rubbing alky to remove any left over sharpie marks.
