I JUST GOT MY MOTOR BACK FROM THE BUILDER BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I BLEW A QUARTER SIZE HOLE THROUGH MY RIGHT PISTON AND MELTED THE TOP PORTION OF THE ROD. MY BUILDER TOLD ME IT WAS A COMBINATION OF POOR FUEL, HIGH COMPRESSION, AND BAD TIMING. I NOW REMOVED MY DEGREE KEY AND RUN AV GAS. I ALSO REJETTED TO 310 MAINS W/30 PIOLTS....THE SHEE SCREAMS LIKE NO OTHER

thanks for all the replies. i was told that the higher octaine burns cooler.

You got some bad information. High octane does not burn cooler. High octane fuel resists detonation in higher compression engines. You need this, because as the fuel is being compressed, a lower grade fuel will ignite before it is suposed to. This will affect the combustion when the plug finally does fire, and you will get differing shock waves in the chamber, and you will hear what is called spark knock. It is not good. if you don't have the compression, don't run high octane fuel.
