Banshee Running Wrong

Hello everyone,

First off lemme get the basics out of the way. I have a 2003 Banshee and everything is stock. Since it is winter time, I just rejetted the carbs with #220 jets and set the pilot air screws to 1 1/2 turns. When I did this, I made sure to keep the left side parts and the right side parts separate so they didn't get mixed up. I just went outside and fired it up, and one cylinder is noticably producing more smoke than the other cylinder. But I warmed it up anyway and once warmed up one cylinder was still working more than the other. Also, on the trip back it back fired at about half throttle twice. I am assuming I screwed something up somewhere because the plugs only have about 3 hours on them so I doubt they are fouled. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank,

Andrew

You could have two things wrong. One the air screws aren't turned out the same amount or Two you have something plugging the pilot jet on the side that isn't firing. I bet it's a plugged up pilot jet. There have been two or three cases of this happening over the last few weeks. Take the pilot jet out on the side that isn't running and look through the jet to be sure nothing is plugging it up.

If it revs up on it's own as soon as you start it you probably have an air leak. The back firing is a sure sign that your lean on that side. I bet these symptoms describe your problem... idle is kind of rough, there is no smoke during inital start up on one side, the side that isn't smoking is blowing cold air, it only back fires at low throttle settings when putting around, and it runs fine at half to full throttle. It doesn't cost anything to pull the carb off and to check the pilot jet... do this before replacing any parts.

Also make sure you check the hose that runs between the two carbs on the inboard sides of them. If this hose pops loose, it'll lean out the right cylinder and cause similar symptoms.

Did you re-sync your carbs after you rejetted? They normally won't pop out of sync when rejetting, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

speak of the devil... today i just got done rebuilding my top end and put my noss head on. everything runs ok and there was some coolant leaking from the entry and exit valves in head, all i had to do was tighten the allen screws in there and everything is fine, but i have the exact problem SSS... my right cylinder at idle to say about 1/8th throttle... my left is smoking and running fine but my right doesnt smoke at all until i give it throttle.. it just feels like its blowing cold air

im gonna take my carb apart when i have time and look for any sign of the pilot being plugged

also.. one more thing, someone said that i could just inactivate the tors by unplugging the black box under the gas tank..... but i think somewhere along the way i have to splice some wires... what do i do?? thanks again

When I yanked my TORS, I had to do a few tweaks.

1) Remove the "brains" from under the tank.

2) Disconnect the TORS wiring from the main harness

3) Remove the TORS units from the top of the carbs.

4) Replace the throttle cable

5) Drill and tap each carb body for an idle screw.

My 'shee is an '87 and I haven't had the TORS system on it since it was a year old.

All the goodies I needed to remove that crap were included in my twist throttle kit from Toomey.
