Bogging

Recommended Posts

I know this is a BS topic to talk about but I figured I would hear some opinions.

My shee starts great, has great response while testing throttle in neutral and doesn't hang, big or hesitate.

Took it to St. Anthony dunes which is 1000 ft lower in elevation from Colorado. Did a few quick test runs. Ran perfect all the way through the throttle. Awesome!!!?

After rippin for 15-20 minutes, all of sudden it would bog out. Quickly grab the clutch, whip the throttle slowly and little at a time, it would regain and open up. Release clutch to get goin and then bog repeats.

Thoughts that were discussed while there were,

Jetting - addressed on the spot

Fuel mixture - started at 32-1 and ended with 40-1

Possibly electrical - didn't have the tools to test stator or cdi

Head gasket leak/losing compression - didn't get around to checking

Possibly a stuck float - didn't inspect as it crossed my mind while packing up to leave. But, if it ran strong during the first 15-20 minutes, wouldn't a hindered float cause problems from the get go.

Just bummed that I drove all that way to not even rip it up the bigger shit let alone that much at all.

I'd appreciate any opinions.

Thanks in advance

Hmmmmm.... reeds good?

I have roughly 5-10 hrs on a new top end and I replaced the OEM reeds with boyseen pro series. The reed cage has the beveled pieces that I did reinstall. Not sure what there purpose is except for a stopping point. Maybe I should have left them off.

My first thought would be CDI, but I’d check reeds and compression to rule that out. Is it still full of coolant?

It is still full of coolant but it was over heating a lot. Granted, the outside temp was hot and we were pushing our machines hard around the dunes. Everyone's unit was getting hot at some point. I have a thermostat radiator cap which I know isn't 100% accurate but it would get to 230-240 and even 250 once before I shut it down. I installed an oversized radiator with all new lines, new pro design high flow pump and new bearing/seal. New boyseen pro series reeds and 64.50 wiseco top end with only roughly 10hrs on it. Otherwise, motor is stock besides for a milled head. I'm going to check the electrical this week as I am leaning towards that being the issue.

Thanks for the thoughts
