Hockey390
I'm painting my friends blaster frame right now, and we primed it up, and painted it chrome. But the paint is sort of soft, so if you take your nail to it, you can scrape it off.. It has dried for over a week, so I dont think thats the problem. But we are trying to find a clear coat or something of that sort that will put a hard finish on it without taking from the chrome look. Every clear coat we tried just made chrome look foggy grey. Any ideas?

frocashmoney24
haha it might work, if clear coats not working, which ive never heard of it making it soft
Hockey390
the clearcoat doesnt make it soft, the paint itself is. There is no clear coat on it.. The clearcoat made it look foggy (not chrome)

The clearcoat made it look foggy (not chrome) Yea your screwed thats why no1 likes to paint things chrome, It dulls with the oil in your fingers. I would sand it back down re-primer and paint with another color..I have NEVER had good luck with chrome paints no matter what kind...It looks great but it is way to soft, or brittle, and usualy and easy to dull, even after compleatly dry. Hockey390
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good info.. You described my situation down to the T.. Now the hard part... Trying to convince my friend not to go chrome.
fah_Q
I have used that chrome paint and my stuff is soft too. On my 1995 banshee that i used to have i went all out and had the frame sandblasted and powdercoated. It is the strongest and nicest type of paint out there! There are powder coats that look almost like chrome. If you have the time and money, i would start over and powdercoat the frame. Good luck man. Hockey390
Ya, the frame isnt mine, if it was I wouldnt be spray painting it...Simply for reasons like this. But its the money factor. If I could get this frame, the A-arms, J arms and swingarms done for like $100 I might, but from the sounds of it, the frame alone is $200+ for a good job. spoin39
You could have it ceramic coated and polished to look like chrome, It will last like powdercoating. I had some parts on my snowmobile done like this and looks great!
Klotz
i have a buddy whos pipes are ceramic coated...and they last and dont chip...so if they can be done on pipes i dont see why they cannot be done on frame..i would go with that shane!
