boonman Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Meat, I think your problem may be the R50. However, I wouldn't say that klotz products are bad. I have run Klotz in my sled(s) forever. Always run fine, and have poured to -20 without a problem. With my shee, no matter what the temp was outside, I kicked her over, and it fires up with 2-4 kicks cold. I have let my bike sit for months at a time, and gone out, shaked her a couple times, and kicked it over. no problem. I didn't even run the fuel out of the carbs. I am running Klotz super techniplate though. It is only 20% castor. It is the oil that I have run in everything. Shit, I even run it in my weedeaters. Just because I have it by the gallons..... I can honestly say that at a 40:1 mix, I do get a little more smoke out of it, but I have NEVER fouled a plug. I let my bike idle for sometimes a half hour or longer. Not a problem. And I have run it alot in the winter months here. It gets really cold. And like I said, it never gummed up on me........ But, like Jim said, run what you are comfortable with. I can't speak yay on the R50. I have never run it. But I don't plan to. I LOVE the super techniplate. Excellent lubrication. Quote
ledofthezep Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I can honestly say that at a 40:1 mix, I do get a little more smoke out of it, but I have NEVER fouled a plug. I too run castor927, & same here. I had a jetting issue for a while & did foul plugs about every 6 hrs or so...but I think I got that fixed...after I got my shee I didn't change the plugs for about 3 1/2-4yrs! Now just need a stator....I believe. hehe Quote
doltz Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I run Castor oil myself & I also run on the ice in the winter the owner of Magics Racing here in Mi. told me never to run Castor oil below 50 degrees because it does not stay seperated & tends to coagyalte(???).He said it is the best just not in the winter time. Travis's Banshee Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Last winter was my first back in cold country after a few years in sunny Cali. Had 927 in my "88 R. I also learned the hard way about separation. It's still the best I've used, just a little more of a hassle thats all. Quote
Blue Duece Posted January 2, 2004 Author Report Posted January 2, 2004 here it is about 25 gallons later...its been 35-45 degrees sometimes 25 at night and ive been running it dry and then shakeing it before riding i did notice my bike starts alot harder about ten kicks but when warm first boot...probly cause my first nine kicks are priming a dry motor...as it warms up we'll see how shee does...... Quote
mcaf29 Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 I too had hard starting but I took the advice from here. I run it dry then the next day when I start it I shake, turn on the gas, primer kick 4 or 5 times then it kicks over 2-3 kicks. After its warm it always starts on the first kick. Quote
SHEEGUY SMOKEDYAA Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Well today it was 75 degrees rode all day and my 927 never failed me. That cold weather must really be something. Love my 927 and c-12. Shake it good or drive it far to so it gets mixed up well great oil just mix it well. Quote
2001SSTBanshee Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 I like learning about oils. Many people here probably remember me trying to convince everyone to quit wasting money on "motocycle oil" for the tranny. Anyways here's my .02. Im a car dealer so I buy a lot of oil (automobile). I recently learned about Molybdenum Disulfide, an oil additive used in some oils. Mobil 1 just recently started. You can tell because they changed the lil catch phrase near the top of the bottle from tri-synthetic to new synthetic formulation or something like that. Anyways I believe Moly is the shit, and I've been buying cases of Schaeffer's oils for gas cars/trucks, deisels, ATF fluids, and Im waiting on some greases. My point is Schaeffers makes a 2 stroke oil with moly in it. I'll be trying it real soon myself. info- http://www.schaefferoil.com/data/706.html Deuce, didnt you say you ran something called NEO before? I believe they use moly also. So do a few expensive oils like redline and royal purple. I dont know about 2 stroke prices but Schaeffers is way more cost effective for me than those others I named. Quote
2001SSTBanshee Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 BTW- Moly is a friction modifier thats why its not in my tranny. Quote
