gurny Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 My mods are listed. I was thinking of takin off my air box lid but not sure because of alot of sand getting in there. I ride sand and trail, 270 mains and 30 pilots needle in the 2nd slot at sea level. Will I suck alot of dirt and sand from my tires roosting it into my air box? Also if any one could tell me where to start with jetting or what they are running. Thanks Quote
Banchetta Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 If you don't want to run the lid off, then try cutting the last 1.5" off the end of the lid so you still have all four clips...Makes a huge difference and you'll have to go up about 2 sizes on the mains...should notice better throttle response also....As for jetting, I'd try raising the needles and lowering the pilots....I'd go w/ either stock pilots or 27.5 and readjust the air screws to throttle response...I've never seen anyone in my area w/ fmf pipes like the larger pilots....Good luck and let us know how you make out... BenBB Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 Do you have an Outerwear on the K&N? If so, yes ditch the lid unless you hit alot (and I mean ALOT) of mud & water. With an Outerwear sand will never touch the K&N, if it makes it's way into the airbox it will just fall right off the Outerwear (I love my Outerwear and recommend one). If you jetting is perfect now, try going up a size on the mains for airbox lid removal, maybe 2 sizes if you had the snorkel on there. If you're not sure on the jetting, and you're pretty close to sea level (not sure what the elevation is in MA), I'd start with 330 mains, 30 pilots, airscrews 1.5 turns out, and needles one clip position leaner than stock (2nd clip position from the blunt end) for no airbox lid...that's assuming 32:1 premix and 60-80 degrees F, if it's colder you might want to start a size or two larger on the mains. Good luck. BTW if you haven't already you might check out the jetting FAQ, link in my sig below... Quote
BenBB Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 Forgot to mention, do you have an adapter plate that the K&N mounts to? If not you hafta have the airbox lid (at least the front part like Banchetta said) on there to secure the air filter... Quote
gurny Posted December 18, 2003 Author Report Posted December 18, 2003 I dont have the outerwear on my filter and yes I bolted the filter to the box. I ve tried 1.5 in off my air box but glued it back togther for reasons I don t remember but I haven t changed my main for winter yet so I m going to go up 3 sizes and get a 27.5 pilot just to try it out, but it seems fine with 30. I have 300 mains at my house you think I should try to cut the box and run 300? Thanks for the replys. Quote
Banchetta Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Don't cut the box, cut the lid....300 mains should be good. I'm running 300 mains, 25 pilots, needles 5th clip from the top, air screw 1 turn out....I'm not too far from you...Best way to dial in the mains is to run your shee wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop, pull the plugs....Black is rich, brown is perfect, tan or white is lean.... gurny Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 I know not to cut the air box, I was talkin about the lid. I m going to try that today. I ll try to do the wot test but I m not sure be cause the trails I m ridding today there is no spot to go wot in 6th. But 300 mains sound good to me because 2 for the air box lid and one for the winter. Thanks alot bancetta. Ill let you know how it works out. Quote
gurny Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 I cut the lid and put the 300 mains in and it ripped. Way better throttle response. It was way better in the trails. Thanks Quote
Banchetta Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 Sounds good, you should try a smaller pilot and let us know how you like that.....I think it'll improve your low end...my .02 Quote
