Stylemaster
hey guys looking at some freeride MTB's tonight just looking for ideas on bikes. i looked at a norco torrent i think it was (04, hardtail blue frame, 220mm hayes discs and dirt jumoer 3 fork) really nice ride but..... its a littel steep for my wallet it almost had a cash attack... so im looking for some more options on a fairly cheap freeride MTB preferrably with a 24" rear wheel and 26" front, disc brakes doesnt amtter if there hydrualic or cable, a fairly good fork up front and a beefy build. give me some ideas and websites to go with em so i can check em out try and keep it $1100 (canadian) or less (thats around $780-$850 american i think...) peace guys

broke
You may want to try www.mtbr.com . I used to buy and sell alot on there when I was still racing. Most of the time you find people on there that work for a shop and want to sell off their old stuff to buy new. They got it all at pretty good prices and in turn sell it for even better prices. That's something that doesn't really seem to happen in the quad world, go figure. I would probably stay away from all the cable actuated discs(except maybe Hayes, I've never used them). Hydros have a much better feel and modulate better. Anyway, look for a good frame and fork, with well built wheels(probably 4 cross 36's). All the other components are pretty easy and cheap to upgrade as money allows. I have tried the 24" rear wheels and the only advantage I have found to them is that you can run a wider rear tire and it gives you a little more clearance. I found it would tend to get hung up in braking bumps and chatter much worse than a 26". I had a Santa Cruz Heckler that was a great bike and bullet proof. From there I went to a Foes ZigZag for dual slalom. The best bang for the buck was the Heckler. You really have to figure out if you want a bike to try 15 flat land drops or a good woods bikes that can take some good hits. Some guys swear by hardtails but I really liked the 5"ish bikes. broke

boonman
I bought this bike off of Ebay this spring. Rode it all summer. Never let me down. Not too bad for the $$ I spent on it. Suspension works excellent, and the brakes were good. (disc) I know it is made in China, and is soome knockoff of something else, but They are retardedly cheap. I could trash one a year, throw it in the trash at the end of the season, and do it every year for 4 years to equal what something like that would cost in a name brand model. So, I went for it. I am a happy MTB'er.

blk02banshee
For a decent freeride bike, you can expect to spend at least $5-6,000 US. That aint no shit, either.
