Time To Re-ring

Recommended Posts

I got over two years of steady riding on my Banshee. I want to freshin up my motor. I have not done a tear down yet to check my cylinders or pistons. I don't want to get all crazy on motor work, and I want to keep relieable but I also want to do a little mod work while I have it apart. If my bore is ok I want to keep it stock. I was thinking of raising the compression? Should I some pistons in it? And what kind? Or, I was looking at the adjustable dome heads? Also, what is the stock cylinder walls made of? Some people say not to hone the cylinders, but I don't see why not??? Last of all, what do you think of the adjustable timing keys?? I want to advance to timing??

Thanks for any help.......................................

you should check your compression chances are with that many hours your due for a top end.........id get a timing plate over a key..........Noss makes a nice head, around 240 bucks but will improve performance throughout your power band.....

Just be careful with your fuel octane, I speak from experience. I just melted two brand new pistons and a bore job. I installed the pro-design cool head with 21cc domes and I installed the +4 degree key. I must have had bad detonation because the top of the pistons looked like someone was hitting them with a ball peen hammer. I was told I would have been alright with my combo if I had been running racing fuel. hope my experience helps.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am also putting the Tommey throttle kit to eliminate the stock overide system. You have to drill holes through the stock carbs for idle adjustment screws, I am doing that at work on a pression drill press.

I still don't know what pistons to put in it?? I was thinking about those Vito power pistons or Wisco's or what ever???????????

Thanks for everyones help on this................
