Timcon
Hello everyone, Ive faced an issue where my 2008 banshee had its crank blow up from street riding. It just has a t5 and radiator on nothing special but thought you guys could help me prevent this in the future. Is the banshee street compatible? hoppedupandcutdown
Bearings give out? Crank separate? Use good premix? Excessive RPM's? Cranks don't necessarily "blow up" Street riding shouldn't be the cause.
Timcon
High rpm i was in sixth gear not pinned but going at least a hundred premix is 25 to 0.5 didnt get the first two questions Edited February 7, 2021 by Timcon
hoppedupandcutdown
That translates to 20:1 and 62mph to us. Those numbers are not being hard on a Banshee at all. Stock Yamaha crank? What exactly blew up on it?
kawa110
Hole in piston? Seized rings? Did you let it warm up good?
Timcon
Definitely warmed it up, yah stock yamaha crank but can't specify what broke
Timcon
I have been told by my mechanic that driving on asphalt increases heat within the engine ultimately causing it to blow. He said that it is preferable to pull into sand every half a kilo on asphalt
Timcon
What premix do you guys recommend for street riding? I use 25 liters to 0.5 liter of oil Edited February 7, 2021 by Timcon

I only ask because the asphalt riding attributing to engine heat thing is ridiculous. It shouldn't matter as long as your jetting is correct for the ratio. Without knowing what actually broke, hard to diagnose the problem.
Timcon
What does jetting mean? He is gonna inform me today about the issue ill keep you up to date Edited February 7, 2021 by Timcon
hoppedupandcutdown
The fuel jets in the carbs require changes for temp, elevation and motor mods like pipes and filter changes from stock.
Timcon
I didn't change anything from stock i just have K and N air filters 2 instead of 1 air flter how do I change the jetting? what do you propose Edited February 7, 2021 by Timcon
hoppedupandcutdown
post pictures of the broken engine parts and the spark plugs. For now I'm going to assume without the stock air box and twice the oil mix most of us use, you ran it lean (to little fuel to air) and melted down the pistons. There's a lot to read here on BansheeHQ, sounds as if you have a lot to learn about these 2 stroke machines. We all started somewhere.
