rebelbanshee2
I have waged war on my wiring harness and want to get rid of all the useless crap and also mount the cdi under the gas tank to get rid of the wires that go allllll the way to the back of the bike. heres some of what i want to do 1. i have trail tech lights so i want to get rid of the whole low beam wiring 2. get rid of handle bar control pod, replace with dirtbike style button kill switch and a toggle switch for the lights 3. wire tether kill switch into key switch wires 4.get rid of all tors wiring 5.then cut a ton of length out from centralizing under tank I basically want the least about of wires on my bike. so any suggestions or tips on any or all thing would be great. kenr74
I'm not sure if you will want your CDI so close to the engine but it sounds like an interesting idea.
BamaBanshee
a little pricey but this is the route i am going to go in the next month when i remove and rewire mine. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/product.ASP?...gNo=1&redirect=
rebelbanshee2
I'm not sure if you will want your CDI so close to the engine but it sounds like an interesting idea. whats the problem with the cdi being near the engine?? maybe its not a good idea then.... I managed to figure out the wires i didnt need, wasnt that hard once i looked at the diagram, and i got all the wires i need to put new switches on, so i guess i have all my questions answered ecxept about the cdi now
brock_fuzzy_69
yeah those weatherpack connectors are th shit man they are so friggin nice but i woudl suggest getting them from an all electric supply house like del city or waytek wire other good alternatives are deutz connectors not sure ont eh spelling on that one the company that makes weatherpack also makes metricpack wich is very similar oh and all chevy trucks and cars use weatherpack connection s on them as well
NYUK
i was thinking about doing the same thing,i don t run lights,i just drag, and i got this big birds nest of wires wire tied under my gas tank.i was thinking just eliminate all the tors and light crap and getting a nice length of that clear blue fuel line and cutting it and put the wires in that. rebelbanshee2
is it possible to splice both my tether kill and kill button into the kill switch wiring? i think it should work just fine but want to make sure...and anyone know why it would be a bad idea to put the cdi near the engine?? BenBB
Yes use the same circuit (black to black/white) for both your tether and pushbutton kill switch-they both work by completing the circuit and killing the motor; the key switch circuit is opposite because it opens the circuit to ground to tell the CDI to shut off. Anyway, yes putting them both on that circuit is fine. BTW I don't think movin' the CDI closer to the motor would make a whole lotta difference, as I understand it they really really hate water, but excessive heat and/or vibration is prolly a bad thing too...what about mounting it right above the carbs, on the little frame rail that aftermarket key switches mount? Maybe it's the rear two fuel tank bolts I'm thinkin of...
kenr74
whats the problem with the cdi being near the engine?? I'm not sure that it would be a problem but I don't think electronics like heat. Being right above the engine may not be the best place. I like the idea but I'd hate to see a CDI die because it got too hot.
