bigboybanshee
The first radio you pictured is the one I bought my woman for Christmas...WEIRD...I like it, although I haven't hooked it up. Looks very similar to the one I have in my car now. I'd get the pioneer, I personally have never had a bad one!

evil
id go with the pioneer rod, those are cool. i have a sony tv in my truck that has a feature that makes the sound, sound like it by your head, by your mid waste or by the floor, its pretty cool. i run that as a head unit, a audiobahn 600 watt amp and a single jl w6 with pioneer 4 way 5x7; in all the stock holes. it really cranks out. later
WickedBanshee
i've like the mb quarts that i've heard in the past but i do agree w/ the harsh thing. that's exactly why i chose my aplines instead of the eclipses back in the day. much smoother and not as harsh. for the sub i'd go w3 also. definately 2 amps too. check out the specs on both head units and see which one offers what you need and then run them both and see which one you like to operate better. matter of opinion and yours is the one in question so go out there and check them out. papa_smurf49319
i was thinking of getting the alpine head unit to, but then i went to circuit city and checked it out, it felt to cheap to me, and was overpriced for the features it had. fixitrod
They are almost identical in features. Apperance and a little less power on the pioneer is it. Other than that it's operation like stated above. I hate these decisions.
Justintoxicated
They are almost identical in features. Apperance and a little less power on the pioneer is it. Other than that it's operation like stated above. I hate these decisions. if your goinjg to run 2 amps, or power the components off any amp, power should not make any difference at all...Thats why competition decks often have only preouts. Listen to them both on the same set of speaker and see if you can tell any difference in clarity. Also check out which one will be easier to operate while your driving. And which one looks cooler (pioneer) also. If the alpine feels cheap I would not get it, knobs break but so do buttons.
fixitrod
So far this is what I'm doing. 2 sets of these type R 6.5 in all 4 doors (These sound amazing) 1 of these .... type R 10 for just a little low end. This thing is huge. And a box built just for the supercrew For now I'm going to run the 4 doors on the internal amp of the reciever. I've heard from a few shops that it will will most likely be enough. The reciever requires a 10 gauge wire for the internal amp. If it's not enough, I'll get an amp for it later. I will run the sub from a 100w x 100w rms amp.
boonman
I am sorry that you are going Alpine. I wish you luck. Especially that you are running the mids and tweets off the deck itself. Although, I am runing a system just the same, however I have a pioneer deck... It will most likely sound good though...

Justintoxicated
I would never run components off the deck....It sounds like shit in 90% of the cases. You really need an amp with a crossover for those things. Im betting you will buy an amp sooner than yu think let us know.
fixitrod
I actually heard the 176a's on and off an amp at a shop. They sounded excellent on both. I was really shocked. The reciever requires a 10guage power wire to feed the internal amp. I don't listen to the music way way loud because the kids are usually in the truck with me. I had to take the r series sub back though. The space is to tight under the seat.... depth wise. I went with the mtx 6000. It was the most shallow speaker they had. Anyway, head unit and door speakers should be here on dec 19 or 22. The box should be here on the 22nd too. Well see.
bigscary
well I will tell you that I like MB Quart the best out of all of the mids and highs that I have tried.......but the alpines are pretty good also........ clarion fosgate sony kenwood and jbl all SUCK! I have bought several things from ikesound.com and they have pretty good prices even though half of the fools they have sell'n da shit don't know rockford from rockwood.... but if you call them and tell them what you want they send it out quick.....and best of all, the prices on the website include shipping! Justintoxicated
Im not saying it won't sound better than what you had, just that components really are not made to be driven off the deck. you need something with a crossover such as an amp to power them correctly, The difference is night and day. Also how do you know the amp in the store was set up properly to run the mids and tweets? usualy its just an amp setup to power anything. And of course 1/2 the guys at thos eplaces don't understand Highpass and Lowpass filtering correctly or how to adjust the system anyways. Components should have no deep bass sent to them! And since your using the deck there is no way to properly filter it out (someones if you drive the sub off an independent pre-out you can adjsut it but still no comparison to an amp with a crossover)just mid and highs(highs only for the tweets thats what the crosover they gave you does; seperates mid and high) all the rest should come from the woofer. Just my 2 cents, Im not talking jsut volume but also for clarity. Otherwise it indicates that the speakers do not need to be components and you coulda saved money and gone cheaper. Just my 2cents, get an amp with a high pass filter in the future and you will be much happier. You can run the 10 gauge wire youself its easy. I ran a setup off the deck for a while, and after letting the place hookup amps and blowing 3 sets of my speakers cause they sold me an improper amp; I set it up myself and its WAY WAY WAY better. More difference than just upgrading to the components themselves. Also did you check to make sure the components will fit in your doors? I had to go with kenwood excellons because my doors were too narrow to fit anything other than mids that used neobendium magnets. You asked for advice so I hope this helps.
