Sheldon8801
Hey guys. So my banshee is having some issues right now. The left cylinder fires fine, but the right cylinder has smoke coming out, but there isn’t much exhaust pressure coming out. Raw fuel and oil is spitting out. Spark plugs are fine, and so are the coil wires. Thought it was a carb issue, but switched carbs and nothing changed. Also switched reeds, nothing changed. Inspected the right crank seal, and it appears to be ok. Also, the compression is good, reading about 95 psi on both cylinders. The right piston is intact, no holes in it or cracks. Main jets are a 220, and air screw is about 1.5 turns out. I live in Loveland Colorado, relatively high elevation. Don’t know what the problem is and I’m getting frustrated. Any input would be greatly appreciated Edited October 31, 2019 by Sheldon8801
Pinkylee
Are you sure it is raw fuel and oil ? And not radiator fluid from a blown head gasket ?
Sheldon8801
The head gasket only has about 10 hours on it, and it looks fine. I didn’t get any scent of coolant, mainly oil and gas. I’m just not understanding why I don’t feel much exhaust pressure out of that pipe. Where does the air that’s being compressed go? And smoke is still coming out
ginger
if that cylinder isnt firing, you will get smoke, and gas out of that pipe with vary little pressure out the exhaust because it isnt have the "explosion" in the cylinder making that pressure. Sheldon8801
And why is that? I have spark? The carbs are good and so are the reeds. Jetting is the same as it was when it ran good
375hp banshees
What has changed since it ran last? you swapped plugs, wires, choke on/ off, pipe plugged?
Sheldon8801
Since it ran well last, nothing changed in terms of swapping parts. After further inspection, there is oil where the crank sits, indicating a bad crank seal. So yang would explain the smoke but no exhaust pressure
375hp banshees
In the case? Or it's just in burnt mix?How long did it sit since last ran well? What do you have apart now? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Sheldon8801
It’s in the case, by where the crank skits. I was riding it when it started to run bad. I have the right cylinder off.
375hp banshees
Is it mix oil or trans oil?Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Sheldon8801
There’s definitely fuel but I’m thinking it’s transmission oil. I’m going to do some testing later tonight and get that crap out and see if it runs. A little trial and error. I’m confident it’s the crank seal
hoppedupandcutdown
My son had the same problem after he tree'd his Banshee. The left side case flooded, had spark but no fire or pressure out the exhaust. Drained the exhaust pipe, Then I clamped the left side fuel hose and ran it at mid RPM until it started to lean rev, let go the pinch clamp and it's been fine ever since. Sheldon8801
and it was a bad crank seal that was causing it?
hoppedupandcutdown
No, it ran upside with one carb slide stuck wide open until the tree limbs and vines wrapped up in the axle and killed it. The left pipe was full of fuel, so I'm certain the case had enough in it that it wouldn't run on that side.
hoppedupandcutdown
Did you do a leak down test before you pulled the cylinder off?
