96shee84z28
should i run aviation fuel when i get my coolhead with 20cc domes? and is there a big diff. between race fuel and aviation fuel??
gumby
aiation fuel is a higher octane rating but i dont think a shee has enough umph to burn it and its designed more to burn at high altitudes hence aviation fuel. i think its kinda like putting alchol in a regular gas motor it just dont run right
tr6shee
Hey I run av gas in my o3 shee, I have 20cc domes bored out w wiseco pistons tr6 pipes 2:1 air filter, advanced timing and boysen reeds ,It burns a little hot but Ive never had a problem, whatever you do dont run pumpgas With 20cc domes! MRMOONEY
i run av gas in my bike and have for about 2 years, its alot alot cheaper then race gas, i have never had a prob with it. My builder suggested me to run it. just my 2 cents.
banshee370
Yes 100LL (av gas) is leaded. NO it wont hurt your motor! I too have been running it for years. NO problems AT ALL! Tip: 100LL burns differently than pump gas, Race gas burns differently than pump gas, 100LL burns differently than race gas, ect ect ect ect........... 100LL will actually burn COOLER then pump & race gas. JETTING changes MAY be necessary when changing ANY fuel. This topic is just like a ford vs chevy debate. Run what YOU feel comfortable with. On "MY" bike I am able to run MORE timing advance than if I was running race fuel. Does this mean race fuel is bad? No. Does this mean that 100LL is the best? NO. ALWAYS check your jetting when making any changes.
MRMOONEY
very very well put, i love av gas, its cheap and it works when you have alot of compression, i also laugh when people say but its for high alitudes, so alky is for funny cars does that mean we can't run it um no... boonman
I have witnessed aviation fuel make a motor run hotter. I don't and will not run it in anything I own. Unless I get a plane. But I highly doubt that..
94BansheeRider
Even though AV gas is cheaper, I have been told not to run it because there are additives in the fuel to keep it from freezing at high altitudes. Kinda like antifreeze. I will not run AV gas in my shee. Besides, I like the way the race fuel smells
RUNMYTA
This question has been beat to death. If you do a search you would see that. AVGAS/100ll WILL NOT HURT YOUR ENGINE!!!! AVGAS/100ll WILL MAKE YOUR ENGINE RUN COOLER!!!! The small amount of lead that is in AVGAS actually helps reduce detonation. AVGAS/100ll has a higher oxygen content than Race/pump fuel. So when using AVGAS you "typically" need to jet one size larger on the main! (If you are lean you will run hotter ) You only need higher octane fuel for higher compression engines. Just because you have pipes, intake mods, or any other bolt ons does not require AVGAS/Racefuel!!! Only when you raise the compression (My prefernce is 180lbs or higher) will you need to run high octane fuel. Mike
2banshees
i run it but its supposed to be a secret. runs 100% better than 91 octane. ive had no problems. tore the bike down for rings and the topend was clean as a whistle. i run av gas with amsoil works 4 me. but do whatever. its your bike. azsandrat
I've been running 100LL for a few years and have had no problems at all. If you run hot on AV its too lean as stated before. Ihave 3 Banshees,2LT-80,Lt-50 and a Odessey and they all burn it at 32:1 with KLOTZ oil. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. The banshee motors are all strokers and big bores. So if This helps you in your decision, I have alot of money in these toys!!!! Good luck with the decision.
