Firemn260 Posted February 27, 2019 Report Share Posted February 27, 2019 So I got a chance to start breaking down my quad to start making a list of what I need to get it zinging again. I know there is no such thing as a budget build when it comes to banshees. I found that out when I built up my last one I had but that was back before kids, wife ect. My goal is to have a decent running quad to rip around my property on when I get a itch for some 2 stroke powerband madness. I started tearing it down last night and here is what I have found so far: rear shock is shot. I’m not sure about getting this one rebuilt or is it just as cost effective to find another used one in decent shape. It sat outside for a while so you can imagine it’s pretty crusty. The gas was drained but the carbs are pretty gummed up along with the fuel lines and tank. Not a big deal I can clean them up. I turned the engine over and it sounded pretty gritty. It sat out with not side cover on it so the flywheel is rusty and I’m assuming the rest of the stator and components are too. I need to pick up another flywheel puller. My plan is to tear down the engine and freshen the top end. I’m also thinking new crank seals and bearings might be a good idea too. As far as the suspension I would love to do another elka set up but I just don’t have that kind of money to put into it right now. I’ve been researching about doing the Yfz convertion but I don’t want to throw a bunch of parts together only to have issues down the road. So that’s where I’m at for right now. I guess I’m just looking for some constructive criticism before I let this project land me in divorce court lol. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Replace all the bearings/seals in the bottom end, that would be a must. Probably have to replace stator to. Since your on a Very tight budget, yah just buy a used nice rear shock. Skip the yfz shocks and find a set of used Works Shocks for around $100-$400 depending on condition. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ginger Posted February 28, 2019 Report Share Posted February 28, 2019 I agree as above. Try to stick to a OEM stator, they seem to work the best. Say no to yfz suspension, they arent valved or anything for the banshee geometry. you can scope out ebay or the forums and get some shocks fairly cheap. Im pulling the engine next week and going to tear it all down. We shall see what’s what. I would post some pics but it says my files are to big. It just seemed to have more resistance than it should and it felt gritty if that makes sense. It was enough that I didn’t want the force the kicker. Im just going by what I was told about no spark but I do want to check it before I rip it apart. I would just feel better resealing it all after it’s been sitting so long.
